For those awaiting college and ROTC decisions, and also making your final decisions for which college/ what branch to potentially train to serve in. Recommend you avoid "Waiting" for when schools and ROTC units "reopen" to complete your due diligence. I suspect a lot of campuses may remain as they are now - virtual, no tours, no ROTC activities to go observe etc. for the Spring semester.

Options: call/ email the schools, the ROOs. network to speak with current students/ ROTC participants. Keep leveraging this board if you have specific questions.

Most decisions need to be made in roughly 42 days from now - before May 1st. Some of you don't yet have all info in front of you to make those choices while you await a SA or NROTC application outcomes - Understood. Just know it's a lot to process once you have all choices in-hand. So ask whatever's on your mind now, so you have time to process the answers.

You may not have the benefit of tie-breaker visits on-site. Good luck.

Can I ask a question, DD was given a type 7 scholarship. We are awaiting to hear about admission to university. Do we have to know where she is using the scholarship before accepting it? This entire process is new, I did not go to college myself so I feel very overwhelmed of where to go from here. Universities being closed isn’t helping.

I did have to select which college and upload college acceptance document when accepting the AFROTC scholarship.

No worries friend - this process certainly was overwhelming for my family too last year and most others - you are not alone. We have your six/ can help. First - congrats to your DD on earning this scholarship!

Please check your DD's AFROTC scholarship offer email- in that you can confirm your DD's AFROTC offer exact decision deadline to accept the AFROTC scholarship. Please also read up on what exactly you need to upload when you do make a decision, so you're not in a pinch later when you do make your decision. You do let them know where you'll use it in the letter - could try to change it, but given your timing, see if you can wait 3 weeks to let them know? My DS received his AFROTC offer in December of last year, and if I recall the offers had like a 4/30 or 5/1 deadline - but please please confirm your date - it's all about your deadline, this year.

As you're awaiting a college acceptance decision, if your offer affords more time, maybe you hold off until 4/15, which is the latest you should receive your decision from the college. Prior to that try to have this sorted out to know what your decision will be when your options are laid out so that when that decision hits, you can get your paperwork in quickly. Like if I get accepted to that last school, I'm goin! or not. Understand if merit or aid scholarships can be applied to room and board costs from each option. Ask away to the colleges/ this board to position yourself to make that decision quickly. Understand the option to convert a type 7 to a 3 year alternative, if interested or if that's needed. Confirm what schools would offer support if you want to do that. Confirm your choices are in-state to use a type-7.

The scholarships are contingent on passing a DODMERB physical- so, getting that out of the way feels good - then you know you have to show up in-shape/ ready. Once you make a decision upload your acceptance/ confirm it's processed, and then they will contact you to schedule the physical.

Please let us know how we can help - feel welcome to PM me if you want to talk anything through - this board was amazingly helpful as we sorted out my DS's application journey - learned a lot - happy to try and help.

If you go to your portal and click on the area where it allows you to accept/decline a scholarship offer, you can see the individual requirements for your scholarship. It should give you a checklist that you need to accomplish before your scholarship can be activated and also provide you with a deadline to accept/decline your scholarship by. My deadline is 31 May, so most, if not all, college admissions decisions should be released by that point.

Another thing that helps and that I did with schools such as Syracuse, and WPI, if you contact the recruiting officer at the college and explain to them that you have a scholarship and would like to use it at their school, they will usually expedite your review/decision. I won a 4 yr AROTC and was in contact with Syracuse very early and I heard my decision about a month earlier than it was supposed to be released, in fact their decisions for everyone else still aren't out. WPI wasn't as early as Syracuse but even just a week earlier can help take the stress off. Congrats though!!
