March 8th, 2011 AROTC Board

Hi everyone! I finally made an account for the forums...it looks like it is mostly parents on here, but I am a high school senior waiting for my results. I have been reading on here for about a month and decided to join the wait with everyone...looks like its coming up very soon!

thanks everyone for all the great info!

Welcome to the thread Paul!! Yeah, all us crazy parents need somewhere to hang out. It keeps me from bugging my DS to death:wink: Hope April brings you some great news and if you'd like, post your schools and major. You've just added a whole lot of people rooting for you with a few keystrokes!

Does anyone know anything about how effective being an Eagle Scout is on CC's decision making?

Thanks,

Government

Google for the AROTC interview form or for a copy of the application, I know somewhere it gives an idea of how many points Eagle, or other leadership positions, weigh in for in the 1000pt score you're working for. Sorry I don't have the links handy(and I'm not real technical either).

I know my DS is hoping is was worth alot. Did you see the Off topic thread on this forum where everyone was chiming in who was Eagle and other scout stuff? It was only a few days ago, add your name if you haven't already.

Wondering

Eagle Scout is big, counts 20 points in leadership.LINK

Is this the most current form? Two ROTC contacts told us no extra points for an ACT score higher than 24 BUT this form states over 24 is needed to receive extra points. Anyone have any insight regarding the application of the ACT requirement?

OOPS! Updated link to: CC Form 159-R, APR 2008 --- MSU has both the 2006 and 2008 version on their site
(2008 is the most recent that I know of)

Captain = 20 points "Captain of athletic or academic team - Eagle Scout/Gold Star/CAP Billy Mitchell"
Max in each SAL category is 40 points.

Welcome Paul! Love seeing KU on your list; most of the posters here seem to be either East or West coast hopefuls, haven't seen any for KS.

I just saw a new thread started by leapyear, says that DS status changed on DoDMerb. It made me curious, as I have not even tried the DoDMerb link for several weeks since it was down for so long. I just pulled it up, saw the statement that all older logins were deleted; created a new login for DS and saw that DS's page also has ROTC listed with a status of "Under DoDMERB Review". The part that peaked my interest was that it said it was just added 05-Apr-11; yesterday...makes me go hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm......

I tend to run cautiously optimistic for fear of jinxing any outcome. So, I'll just keep crossing my fingers (and toes) and hope for the best. A decision has to come soon!

New to forum

Hi. Have been reading forums for some time anxiously waiting for my DD outcome for scholarship. I have a question regarding DODMERB. I have tried to use their site to see if anything has been entered for my DD before and nothing would come up for her social. Today it all of a sudden pops up with all of her info filled in and states: Agency - US Army ROTC; Cycle year - 2010. I would like to think this is a good sign but don't want to get my hopes up. Does anyone have any info on this? BTW, good luck to everyone waiting! Thanks.

I too see that my DD status has changed where we could not previously log her in. Her status says Current Medical Status - testing. Not sure what is up.

Ksmom, the addition of AROTC to my son's DoDMERB was also dated yesterday, so I also took that as a good sign as well. Morgan0704, hope that is a good sign for you too. Could be wrong, but it seems to me that especially in this budget environment Cadet Command would not likely incur costs having DoDMERB intiate or re-evaluate physicals for kids they have no strong interest in...of course, the service academies spend a ton doing physicals on loads of applicants who never get an appointment, so what do I know...

What is the Dodmerb site everyone is talking about? I hope it is not dodmets.com because nothing has changed on there since they recieved my physical... it just says ALL BASIC MEDICAL DOCUMENTS ARE RECEIVED BY DODMERB ON Feb 9 2011 9:23AM

The site listed above (tricare) is where hers changed. Before we weren't even able to access it using her social but now we can. My only confusion is that it says Cycle Years: 2010. She has not begun any kind of physical yet.

OMG Thank you so Much!!

It says "Provide copies of all mental health records regarding ADHD". The date for that is Feb 14th. You dont think it is too late for this do you? I am sending it right away but will I still get my scholarship results on time or do they have to have that remedial??

Ah, getting nervous here!

NOTE:
We're sorry your application hasn't been added to the DoDMerb system, Please check back

This is the message I was greeted with after logging in to the tricare website. Well. I hope that is an error or else I am up the creek for sure.

Okay I am really confused. My DS never received a packet in the mail to register for DODMET. So does that mean he was never in the running?

I don't think any of us really know, but I hope that's not the case for your son. They seem to be handling the DoDMERB physicals differently than in the past - some applicants seem to be getting instructions to have their physical before they even get a scholarship, others are seeing their DoDMERB status change at the same time as results are coming out, and maybe others are not getting any instructions until after all results. Not sure what it all means...but we will know more when the actual Cadet Command website starts to change.

PaulSalis323, if you have a specific question about providing follow-up documents for your physical I suggest you refer to the separate DoDMERB section of the forums and send an email to Mr. Larry Mullen. He is most definitely "the man" with regard to these issues, and is extraordinarily helpful as well. Good luck!
