March 8th, 2011 AROTC Board

I've got a box of cheap zinfindel in the frig waiting for me!! Completely agree, my empathy with my kiddos is overwhelming at times, but wouldn't have it any other way.

Boxed wine! So classy. In my family we joke about it all the time, but the very very experienced wine drinkers that make up certain family members of mine do say it isn't bad at all. Specially for the price.

Those of us with unrefined taste buds add sprite and its all good:thumb:

Here's hoping that news continues to be good for those that haven't heard anything yet. I'm shooting my prayers toward Ohio tonight. Keep the faith!

Patentesq. you always have been right on with your posts, but i have to disagree with the alphabet thing this time around. As of now, as far as I know, nobody with the last name of O or later has had a status change, yet tons of 1st half of the alphabet yesterday and today.

Thanks for the kind words, Kev Dawg's Pop! You may be right, but as cjs mentioned, we've seen posts from the 2nd half of the alphabet today. In the last board, we tried to figure out CC's system but weren't able to do so. Also, even if they were working off an alphabetical list, the only way for things to proceed systematically would be to have only one person working from a stack or list of candidates in alphabetical order. If they divided the stack among four people, some would get through their stack sooner than others and someone with the first two letters "TA" would likely hear before someone with the first two letters "BR" (someone working the "T" pile would have TA on top, while someone working the "B" pile would have "BA" on top and thus it would take time to reach "BR").

For all we know they are working off a list in OML order updating a list from top to bottom.

My DS's status changed early this afternoon and he is a P. There were others as well.

I am still hoping for good news for everyone else.

So are we Monkey! Does your son need a roomate for the dorm? Once we both get meds done, maybe our sons could talk and see if it would work for them both?

He has a maybe roomie already but that was before he got the scholarship. I see no reason they can't at least make contact to see what works out.

We are from Ohio, how about you?

Congratulations to your son.

Did the ROO from Kentucky confirm the scholarship there and confirm it is a 4 year. I only ask because a couple people heard they had a 4 year only to be notified soon after that they were mistaken and it was a 3 year.

If it is truely a 4 year that's great news, it means that they are still awarding some 4 year instead of just 3 year as was expected.

Again Congratulations

He did confirm it was a 4 year. I called him and he graciously called me back towards the end of the day. Four year award and UK kicks in a room and board package. He also has a merit kicker based on ACT and has a tryout with the baseball team (that will be a tough one to get).

Congrats to you and all who have had news. Saying a prayer for all who are still waiting. DS also had a message from ROO at #1 school. Confirmed 4-year. He too has merit kicker based on app, gpa, and ACT which helps with the R&B not covered by ROTC.

Good morning. Sure is quiet around here. The cheap box wine did the trick. Didn't even spritz it with sprite(should have, 3 glasses was more than I should have had...) Appreciate the prayers and good wishes from everyone. You all are amazing and the support here is a huge comfort as we wait to see if Monday brings more status updates or not. It is ugly outside today, rain, rain and more rain. Limits the distractions available. Guess I'm off to the library to borrow some DVDs or something, there is nothing on TV either.

Be in and out today to see who is around. Take care.

Saturday AM. No status change..very depressed... Im throwing in the towel

Don't give up! It's Saturday and there will be more offers on Monday and probably Tuesday! I hope that you can find something fun to do today to help the time pass. So sorry you're discouraged! Sending you my best wishes and prayers!

I don't think they are working this weekend. Be good to yourself and the family. The waiting will eat you alive(and now you're probably out of those Thin Mints...). Monday will bring information - maybe not the answer we want, but once the letter are mailed then we know its time to throw in that towel, not before.

West coast schools

New to posting, been following the discussion. Our DS was trying for scholarships at schools in WA. Most that seem to have been notified are from south or east. Could the be doing status change by region? Still maintaining hope, but the wait is killing us!

Anything is possible with CC -- welcome to posting, the more the merrier.

My status changed since the last time I checked. It now says:You are currently an active eligible applicant for an Army ROTC Scholarship.

Could they be doing status change by region?

Could be by Brigade and then sorted by last 4 of SSN or OLM,
with different people entering from different stacks. IF there is any order at all. Last two boards everyone tried to detect an order and it was generally decided it was completely random. One of the ROO's said on an earlier board that "alphabetical was just not the way Cadet Command worked"

I had one experience with Army personnel management in DC (1980),
she was entering assignments from the top of her in-box, as people walked by and dropped more onto the top of her pile...
it looked like who ever was on the bottom of that 8" pile of paper could be waiting years.:shake:

System is probably something like one or more entering data into the acceptance letters, and then those are dropped into a basket in 'lumps' to be entered into the website system... Think inefficient, non-integrated systems, with lots of manual cross checks.

My status changed since the last time I checked. It now says:You are currently an active eligible applicant for an Army ROTC Scholarship.

The main status page changed to that wording a few days ago for everyone. You need to watch for a change toward the bottom, where it now likely says, selected for an interview with PMS, will change to actually state you have been offered an AROTC scholarship respond is so many days, check your dodmerb status in so many working hours ...to that effect.

They will probably add some status update for more awards on Monday. The wait continues.:thumb:
