March 8th, 2011 AROTC Board

I've been offline for a day and a half and this thread totally exploded! Congratulations to everyone!!!! I guess the status updates are still coming in! Keep the faith!

It's gonna take the rest of the week just to get up to speed! :thumb::thumb:

Last times

Tks TrpMom. I went to his school just before lunch and had guidance councelor call him to her office. I gave him the print-out for status change. His eyes welled up and I was so happy to be there when he got the news.

Agreed it was a real gift to be there when DS checked his status. I'll remember those three high 5's until I die.....or Alzheimer's strikes. Soon his milestones will be happening 13 hours from home. So I'm in Pima's camp soaking it all in for these last few months as 8/19 is the first day at school and only 4 months from today he's gone.

To all of my friends on this thread. BELIEVE...... I had not checked status all day and was going to wait until tomorrow for the last few offers that CC told me would be released. My DS status changed:biggrin: He got his 2nd and 3rd choice. Not sure if 3 or 4 year, but at this point anything is a blessing. Im very emotional right now as this last year and especially this last week have left me limp. After DS getting to the Wait List at USMA and then getting rejected was very tough. As I said earlier, I do not pray often, but now I will do this for all of you out there in the same position. Praying for more Tuesday miracles and many more on Wednesday. Thank you all for being there and going through all of this with me. KevDawgsPop
PS.. DS did not get a Dodmerb packet in the mail last week as he had already been medically qualified by Dodmerb for USMA which carried over to ROTC.

Yay!!!!!:w00t: I couldn't stay away and just saw your status....Very Happy for you and your DS. This really gives me hope...I think I will keep saying my prayers and Believe something might come through after all. :thumb:

There is a thread covering a lot of this topic back on the main menu. Clarkson even has a link to his blog. Good luck.

I did the EXACT SAME THING with my DS! DS and I will remember this shared experience for the rest of our lives. You and Kev Dawg will too. Congrats!

Our son received scholarship to his #1 school. Thank you to everyone on this forum. I will say many prayers for those still waiting. My thoughts are with you all.

Good night all.

Unfortunatly with the way this year has gone, you may never get an official notice that it is over. One of the reasons, it really isn't officially over. There will still be some who do not accept the scholarship, there may be funds available for campus scholarships that some schools will offer over the summer, this happened to a few last year. This is a process that could take until mid summer to finally shake out, then it starts up again in the fall with cadets competing for in school scholarships.

Best advise I can give. Keep in contact with the ROO from the school you decide to attend. If you can make another visit if the school is close by just to keep your face fresh on their minds. When you register for classes make sure you sign up for MS classes, the MS Lab, and PT. If they have extra classes like Ranger Challenge or Color Guard sign up for those as well. Do this early, it shows your ready to hit the ground running. If you live close to the school find out when they have their commissioning ceremony, ask if you can attend, they will most likely say yes. Meet the other cadets and and cadre.

My point is...make it hard for them not to offer you the campus scholarship if one is available. A lot of people will be dissapointed when it becomes clear they did not receive the scholarship. Show the cadre at the school that it did not matter, your coming ready to go no matter what, the scholarship rejection?...that was just a small speed bump.

There is an old saying, The Squeeky Wheel gets the Grease.....You want to be the loudest "Squeeky Wheel" you can be. So pick yourself up, dust yourself off and go grab what you all know you deserve.

Good luck everyone. I look forward to having you all, scholarship or not, visit my home state of Washington in 3 years when you all come to Ft. Lewis for LDAC.

Excellent advice.

The only thing I have to add is to that if you can do it, show up in person before orientation/registration (often at the same time) to meet the cadre and let them go over the program with you. I know at my daughter's school, all ROTC classes are by permission of instructor only. They want to size you up and make sure you understand their program. BTW, this is not the time to discuss scholarships. Just show up to every event you can and be a regular in the ROTC office, if nothing else to get a cup of coffee and shoot the breeze. They give scholarships to cadets who do well not just in class and in PT, but also show a genuine interest in all the activities and people in the program.

Just got back from an all day lacrosse trip...no status change. Very very dissapointed.

Are we done for good? I couldnt really tell from reading the posts.

I can't tell either. My still is unchanged too. But apparently people are saying if they didn't get a scholarship then it says "We're sorry but blah blah blah" Did you get DoDMERB forms? I heard that's supposed to be a good sign.
