We just returned from my Son's CVW and I thought I would share a few (random) impressions.
1. Annapolis is a very nice town, at least the area immediately adjacent to USNA where we spent most of our time. The restaurants in the vicinity of City Dock are very good and varied.
2. The Yard is immaculate.
3. There are no "blue phones" on the Yard. Those of you that have done a lot of college tours know what I mean. When I asked, I was told they don't need them - the Yard is very secure. No worry about your child's physical safety from street criminals.
4. The engineering labs are awesome. Three naval testing tanks, the largest of which is 300+ feet long. The chemical lab we saw was also impressive.
5. The mids in many ways are just like every other college student, but in standard dress and extremely polite. We never saw any just hanging around - they were all moving with a purpose. My son told me that they like to goof off when they get the chance, just like any students. They don't come off as "brainwashed," as one mom in our session was concerned.
6. The Yard is surrounded on 3 sides by water. I should have known that by looking at a map, but it just never stuck in my mind.
7. The plebes can't wait for plebe year to be over. My son liked his hosts. The cookies he brought were very welcome. They also appreciated that he brought a sleeping bag to sleep in, which was very easy to stow during the day.
8. The swimming pool(s) are huge!
Just some random thoughts. I think the CVW sealed the deal for my son.
