My FFR has been talking to me about MMI as an option if I don’t get an appointment. Can anyone pass along info about MMI and their experiences there, especially if you are/were a female student!

I graduated from Marion too long ago (1983) for my experience to be relevant, however my experience was fantastic. However, in the past few years, I have had the chance to meet and talk with Col. Mollahan, the school President about both the ECP (Early Commissioning Program) and the SAP (Service Academy Prep. Program). Col. Mollahan is a very impressive leader for the school and based on what I know, I would not hesitate to use it as a route to either a SA or an early commission. There are lots of opportunities for ROTC scholarships through the school as well... Good luck!

MMI was my plan B during last cycle, but I broke my arm shortly before the summer so I was super bummed I couldn't attend. I stayed at a civilian institution, but from every interaction I've had from their very impressive SAP and LTC Bowen, everything was very top notch. If the SAP is your plan B I highly recommend diving in and reading their its impressive stats on their website as well as getting into contact with LTC Bowen. They also give discounts based on test scores and GPA, and other personal achievements. Throughout my application process their admissions team was very guiding and helpful. They are doing virtual tours right now due to COVID. Sadly that's all the info I have because I couldn't attend. I hope it was helpful.

You may want to post this on the privately and publicly funded military colleges forum to get some more answers.

Is your FFR referring to an AOG opportunity or a self prep option? My 2018 attended MMI on an AOG scholarship and his best friend was a self prep...both had a fantastic experience at MMI and both just flourished at USMA...

When my DS received his AOG Civil Prep offer last year he evaluated both MMI and GMC, both are excellent. GMC won by a hair because of their 6 week intensive math immersion program, personal attention from cadre and the town of Milledgeville. You cant go wrong with either one.

As a current cadet at MMI, I can tell you that prepping here significantly increases your chances at an appointment compared to applying your senior year. While I am a CGA self prep here, the only difference in class comparison is that West Point preppers take history instead of physics. The course load you take here is quite rigorous and I can promise you that you will absolutely be challenged academically, however, LTC Bowen (Head of SAP) at Marion does everything he can to help you be the best candidate you can be.

ITC (Intensive Training Cycle): The best way that I can describe this is as a "happy meal" sized BEAST, only being around 3 weeks long, however, I learned a lot about military discipline in that time. This year was a little lighter than it typically is, simply out of an abundance of caution considering COVID mitigations.

Courseload: The list below is the classes that USMA self and AOG preppers have taken this year:

General Chemistry & Lab I and II
English Freshman Composition
Algebra/Trig for Calculus
American History
Military Science I
Physical Training

Extracurriculars: There is a plethora of extracurricular activities that you can get involved with (indicated on MMI's website) however, I cannot stress this enough: Focus on grades before anything else. Do not stretch yourself too thin because most of your time needs to be spent studying to keep up with classes (especially chemistry). I would advise only getting involved in at MOST 3 extracurriculars for first semester. Your first semester grades are very crucial to your chances at an appointment.

If you have any more questions or concerns about MMI, please don't hesitate to DM me.

as there is a ton of info available on this topic... best of luck!

Both of my DS attend MMI. The oldest is a C2 cadet (2nd year) and is in the Marine PLC program. He will graduate in a few weeks and move on to finish at a four year school here in the South My youngest attends in the SAP as a sponsored AOG West Point cadet and has earned his appt to West Point. I can attest to what Mr. Figgs has stated and then some. The school offers so many varied programs from the SAP program to ROTC's with Army and Air Force, Marine PLC, Athletics and even programs for those not interested in the Military. The command structure is top notch; staff, professors, ROTC cadre, retired military personnel TAC officers. Reach out to LTC Bowen and find out what makes MMI such a special place
