Hello everyone! I am a High School Senior. I am applying to the Naval Academy and Merchant Marine Academy. I’m just wondering the opinion of you all as if whether my stats are impressive enough for USNA/USMMA admission.

My academic stats are:

3.90 Unweighted GPA/4.24 Weighted GPA

SAT Math: 580, SAT EBRW: 620, Total Score: 1200

ACT Math: 20, ACT English: 23, Composite Score of 22

Rank 24/697

I also have taken many AP Classes, such as AP Art History, APUSH, AP Eng Lang, AP World History, AP Bio, AP Econ, AP Eng Lit, AP Physics 1 and APHUG. I have also taken plenty of Honors classes such as Pre-Calculus Honors and Engineering Honors.

Extracurriculars: I have acted as

Treasurer for my school’s Class of 2020 for two years,

Asian International Association Club Treasurer for Seven months,

AP Club Vice President for one year,

MCJROTC Squad Leader for 3 semesters,

MCJROTC Platoon Commander for 1 semester,

Going to serve as MCJROTC 1st Sgt (Senior Enlisted Adviser for my MCJROTC Unit),

Asian International Association Culture Night Committee member for 7 months,

Ran as a distance runner for JV Track and field,

Ran as a member of JV Cross Country,

and played on the school Varsity Quiz Bowl team (also known as Academic League)

I also have completed 129 community service hours as I am an Altar Boy at my church, cleaned up my community, and helped in setting up a Filipino Cultural Festival.

I have been an Altar Server since I was a child, for 10 years.

I have been singing in my Church’s Children’s Choir for 9 Years. 7 years as a Melody Singer. 2 years as a Bass Singer.

I’d like to thank you very much for taking the time to read and to respond. :)

You have a lot going for you, but the weakness I see is your SAT scores. You have to get that math score higher to be more competitive. I think you may be able to take it once more before deadlines. I would work on just your math and use Kahn Academy connected to your past SAT results to pinpoint and improve your weak areas. Good luck.

I agree with kpmom that test scores are little low you have great extras and being asain is a positive. If not accepted first time Marion Military Ins has an excellent track record for getting kids into SAs.

Your chances of getting in are very low. Your ACT scores are below the mins, your SATs might be a tiny bit above. a 1200 today is less than a 1200 when I took it from what I understand with the new test. Don't go to Marion, unless you're a sponsored prep. Go to your local college and save the $$$.
