As someone who is into bodybuilding, and plans to be for the rest of their life, I have a few questions about USAFA and that lifestyle. Now, I know that bodybuilders can be thought of as arrogant and selfish, but believe me, if I fell short of understanding the service before self concept, I wouldn't be trying so hard to get into USAFA. I have been told a couple of different things regarding this subject from it's definitely possible, to give it up. If there are any cadets or former cadets out there who are dedicated to lifting, I would be thrilled if you were to answer a few of my questions. And like I said before, I am completely aware of the fact that military life does not care about your fitness goals, but I have noticed throughout my own life that in a situation like (USAFA) where you don't have much freedoms, working on your own goals can do wonders for other aspects of your performance. So here are my Qs-

1) during BCT, is there any time at all to workout on your own, and is there any way to keep track of your nutrition?

2) During daily life at USAFA, presumably as a pebe, is it possible to maintain a lifting regimen as well as nutrition?

3) What are some challenges that makes bodybuilding difficult at USAFA?

Thank you.

1) I would think during BCT it would be a challenge to lift, I am not even sure there is "free time" to do it.
2) My son goes to the gym almost every day as a doolie. He lifts but would not consider himself a bodybuilder.
3) The only challenge is finding the time with the rigorous schedule, especially doolie year.

That's all I can tell you because I am a parent. Someone there may offer better information.

BTW, I learned long ago that new cadets are not Plebes. They're Doolies. (in reference to your second question)

I’m a parent of a 2023 cadet who is into weightlifting but probably would not consider himself a bodybuilder. With that being said:

1) He worked out plenty during BCT....but not in the gym. The activities kept him busy and fit....but he did not get to choose which activities he wanted to do. He had time each night to journal.

2) As a doolie (freshman, or C4C), my son works out on a regular basis (5-6 days per week) at the cadet gym as well as around campus. He does go to meals, but also orders certain items through Amazon. He’s happy with the protein options (chicken and tuna mostly) but buys protein powder, quinoa/brown rice, oatmeal, nuts, etc. online and keeps in his room. He does wish there were better vegetable options- but does enjoy the salad bar at lunch and dinner.

3) TIME. His academics, military training, and squadron duties come first.

Who knows what will happen with BCT this year - there are changes a foot. The number one priority in BCT is to make it through BCT and to take all of the opportunities to learn and grow from your cadre to heart. From I-Day to A-Day your primary focus should be growing and transforming, from a basic to a cadet (doolie). There will be ample opportunity to work out during that time although unlikely time for body building.

Once your in squad, after A-Day you will be able to workout and most do. You will be time constrained and academics must come first. Protein options are good even for vegetarians. You may need to consider protein supplements once you are allowed to receive packages. Good luck!

1) No you will pretty much be unable to maintain a lifting regimen in BCT. It sucks but think of it as a good cutting time

2) You absolutely will have time to workout as a 4-deg, but it usually comes at the expense of something else. Priorities...

3) I would look into the bodybuilding club team because they can give you access to resources for meal prepping, cooking, and just people to hang out with who share your passion. Mitch's has also expanded food options a LOT which will help with meeting your nutrition goals.
