Medical Disenrollment Question

Hello everyone. I asked this question on the ROTC forum last weekend but haven’t had any responded yet. I figured the next best place to ask would be on this one. If I should remove the post, please let me know.

I am an MSIII 09R on a GRFD scholarship at a private university. Earlier this year I received an OCD diagnosis and was prescribed antidepressants by my doctor to help with it. I reported this to cadre and now I am waiting on a medical determination from CC. I have two questions:

1) At this point I know my chances are not high for remaining in ROTC, but I was wondering if the fact that the army has already “invested” a lot in me over the years via a relatively expensive scholarship to cover private school tuition, you think they might adjudicate favorably on my part? From what I heard the meds are a big issue especially. I guess the money factor is probably not how it’s supposed to work in these decisions, but I guess I’m asking how they judge that in practice from your experiences.

2) If I am found medically disqualified, will I have to pay back my scholarship or any stipends? I looked up answers to this online and the consensus seems to be no, but I figured I’d ask here.

Thank you for your help, and have a nice rest of the week/weekend.

Don’t know the answer to your questions but sending online encouragement your way!! No matter what ends up happening, stay focused on the positives and forge forward on whatever path your sent upon. It will be interesting for you, in 5 or 10 years, to reflect back on this part of your journey, to where you end up. You are an exceptional person, to obtain such a scholarship!

Best wishes to you!!

At this point in time, being a contracted SMP, you have only one point of contact to get your questions answered...your Professor of Military Science :wiggle:
