I recently received a letter of assurance from the naval academy pending that I pass my medical exams. I was disqualified because of eczema and allergies. I’ve never had a medical history of either condition and never been formally diagnosed and I made the mistake of listing these conditions based on what I assumed I had and i could not go back and change it once I realized it wasn’t necessary to list. None of these things inhibit me and I haven’t experienced eczema in over 8 years. My allergies are so mild I can eat the food still and be fine. My status on the Dodmerb website currently says under waiver review and I’m very concerned because it has said this for about 2 weeks now and nothing has changed. Is there anything I can do?

Son has applied to USMMA, USCGA, USNA and NROTC. He received a LOA from USMMA pending medical waiver in early March. He was disqualified initially by DoDMERB for history of mental health issues associated with concussion and other medical/health issues. At present, it is all a history and no active medical or mental health issues and no medication. His USMMA counselor suggested that he wait for any info requests from waiver authority which did not come. Today, his DoDMERB record status changed to "Withdrawn" and counselor says that waiver was denied. Is there any appeal? Should he send additional medical info on current health to support his file with other applications still pending? Currently, he only submitted medical questionnaire and physical to DoDMERB. Thanks.

Not knowing anything about the specifics, because a) You're the Dad, b) I don't know who the actual applicant is.....

1. Today, his DoDMERB record status changed to "Withdrawn" and counselor says that waiver was denied. ****When THEY deny a waiver, THEY withdraw him.
2. Q = "Is there any appeal?"
A = So, based on what's stated above "history of mental health issues associated with concussion and other medical/health issues." The only viable appeal would be sound medical documentation NOT previously considered that indicates evidence those conditions did not exist OR were substantially diminished than previously documented.
3. Q = "Should he send additional medical info on current health to support his file with other applications still pending?
A = Yes
