DD was accepted and then after medical information was completed was disqualified and told a medical waiver for her was being processed. She submitted documentation for one item. The waiver shows it's in process. Her AO told her it's been filed but we do not know what any of that means or entails. How long does this process take? Is the waiver submitted by her AO? Can someone please clarify the process? Thank you so much. This is all new to us.

Since your DD has received a conditional appointment, the USCGA waiver authority will start the process of reviewing her medical documentation. The medical liaison at the academy will reach out to you if they need any other supporting documentation. The average time for waivers is 4-6 weeks, sometimes longer, sometimes less. We have been waiting over 5 weeks since appointment. It sounds like they have a pile to go through. The Dodmerb portal will lag behind anything you hear from CGA. Your AO doesn't have much say in the process, it is all in the hands of the medical team.

Thank you. The Dodmerb says it's under review. Our worry is the timing of that vs declining other schools. She does not want to decline others in case this ends up not working out in her favor. Wishing there was a way to know.

Dodmerb will likely say under waiver review until the academy notifies them that DD has either been approved a medical waiver or denied. And it's my understanding that you will get an email from CGA with the waiver decision before dodmerb status officially changes. Others who have received a waiver can confirm. We are with you in the waiting game!

Do you know if once you're in the waiver process it means you are okay and just going through the process or does it mean you may be denied? We are unclear as to that. Thank you

Waiver process means they are determining if the waiver will be approved or denied.

A good sign that AMI was received and sent to CGA waiver authority is DoDMERB status changed to “Pending Review by Coast Guard Academy”

Try to anticipate any additional AMI that may be requested and have it ready. Just in case.

Maybe it’s finally time to decide on a single plan B, and eliminate plans C,D,E, etc. Either plan A (I assume USCGA) or plan B is where she will go next school year. If plan B requires a $ deposit before waiver status is known, pay the $. Then put plan B off to the side. Start getting paperwork and errands completed for USCGA as there may be a time crunch when your waiver is approved.

DD is in the same boat, feel your pain. Planning to leave deposit for Plan B too.
