I know that you aren't allowed to have OTC meds during plebe summer. Do things like body lotion count as "OTC"? What I mean is, will you be allowed to bring your own lotion/shampoo/hygiene products, or is that strictly monitored too?
 
When I was visiting during my Candidate Visit Weekend everyone in my room had their own products such as Old Spice. They all buy the things from the mid store or get them in "care packages" from their family or loved ones.

I-day you show up with id and your permit to report paperwork (there will be a list in your packet). Everything from your "former" life is taken from you and put away. You can have items sent in care packages. If it is "allowed" you will get to keep it, if not it will be taken away until the end of plebe summer. My understanding is that some things are company specific. I did send lotion, deodorant, face wipes, baby wipes, etc. My plebe was allowed to keep all items sent.

I heard somewhere that some items that you bring, if approved, may be kept. Does a lotion, etc.. count in this category?

I have no idea. You are not going to want anything extra to drag around. I would just ship it in a care package and you will get it after July 4th. Is your lotion that important? You don't want to stand out, at all. You will be setting yourself up for being "that plebe". My advice is lay low, do as you are told and don't make waves.
