If I go to the Merchant Marine Prep school, will I have to apply again or will I get automatic admission? I know with USAFAP I will have to do the entire process again. If anyone know the answer, I will greatly appreciate any information.

I believe you will have to do the process over again. Has anyone received an appointment to NMMI yet?

Good to see Major Hanak posting

It was great to see Major Hanak's posts just now! He is a great resource and answerman who was instrumental in unraveling some of the more "mysterious" parts of the Service Academy Prep journey for DS and us (his parents!). Now, with just a little more than three months to go before DS completes his USNA Foundation year at NMMI, we can (DS and his Dad and I), with great confidence, say that the NMMI SA Prep Program has been amazing for DS - an incredible opportunity and experience all the way around. Major Hanak was helpful at the beginning of the journey as well as throughout the academic year as the ORT instructor for all the SA preps at NMMI. As I said, great to see Major Hanak stop in the Forum today!

To kar57: Thanks you just made my entire week!!!!!!!

To ccfletch: Yes, you will go through the entire process again (including Congressional nominations) to comply with federal law and academy regulations. However, we do help with this and streamline things where we can. As far as "admission" goes, we (NMMI) automatically accept all sponsored preps from all service academies. If your word "admission" means academy appointment, you will have to EARN that. The good news here is that the USMMA will give you a contract. You meet the terms of the contract - you get an appointment (it's all spelled out in black and white) :thumb:

To Wantabe: We have been getting some names from the USMMA. We probably won't have the final list until May. This is nornal as 1 May is "National Declaration Day" for most universities. Even when a candidate receives an appoinment they have the option to delay their decision until 1 May.
