If I have the minuteman scholarship can I drop it after my freshman year and pursue an AFROTC scholarship? I know I have to enlist with the minuteman scholarship so I want to know my options. I think Air Force is the best option for me and it’s too late to apply for an AFROTC scholarship.

Pretty sure it doesn't work that way. If you want Air Force, there are several paths for earning a commission. If you accept the MM Scholarship and enlist, you are committing to that program and a Commission in the Reserves or ANG. I think that is how it works.

Agree with @EEBTTF . The minuteman scholarship is a simultaneous membership program where you participate in ROTC and an Army Reserve unit’s monthly drills each month and summer duty. After graduation and commissioning, Minuteman Scholarship recipients are guaranteed placement in the Army Reserve and have a service commitment obligation they must complete.

FYI - unrelated to Minuteman - Those solely with AROTC 4 year scholarship recipients can "walk away" prior to starting their second year if it's not for them, and keep one year of education without penalty. But please know that's an entirely different program and application and process and commitment. But with minuteman you are enlisting in the reserves / starting with a reserve unit right away, and getting the education as a benefit of it.

if you're asking if after you commit/ enlist and after a year with their unit, the Army would be OK to 1. pay for your freshman year of college and get nothing in return and 2. in a sense forget that they trained you for a year as a member of their unit and expect nothing in return 3 then forgive you of any financial or service obligation you've already signed up in their branch? Are you under an impression that enlisting is casual - like trying Kung Pow and then Orange Chicken at a buffet and no problem to switch? Oof, no Maam or Sir (IDK your gender) - it isn't.

AFROTC: you can apply for an AFROTC scholarship as a college student. For the scholarship, - here is a link to the requirements. https://www.afrotc.com/scholarships/college/requirements/ Concurrently, you can join an a ROTC unit as a college programmer (without a scholarship yet) and compete for a sideload scholarship.

Just be careful and again sign nothing without due diligence. Words like "we'll work with you if that happens" are meaningless do not supercede what you sign on for when you enlist. Good luck.
