I apologize for the amount of posts today, I just have some questions that did not show up when I did a search of the forums. I have a phone call scheduled with a staffer from my MOC's office, my nominating source. I have been nominated by this office for the last 3 years, I will be asking my MOC to call the admission board in support of my application. Has anyone heard of this happening? Or is it not something that really is very heard of?

Isn't the entire point of a nomination is that the MOC is communicating to the admission board support of your application... I fail to see how an extra phone call or email will change anything but I'm no expert;

I don’t see the benefit of this - I am not sure an MOC should even consider it. And I doubt the people reviewing the various slates care what an MOC staff input is.

They could have given a principal nomination. And you could have used them for a letter of recommendation if they personally knew you.

Ditto what everyone else said. And it could actually have the opposite effect as you are wanting. At this point in the game, the ball is in the SA’s hands, not the MOC’s. You are a 3rd time re-app. You have that tenacity going for you! Game isnt over yet! It’s not even April. My youngest was appointed mid May. Unfortunately, you have to wait....like others are.

Hang in there!!

If your MOC really wanted to push hard for your appointment they would have made you a principal nominee. In my opinion I don’t think that calling and asking for this is really appropriate.

I am in the same situation... third time applying and third time receiving a nomination from the same MOC. However, they do not do principle nominations in order to give every applicant a fair choice. I have felt inclined to ask my MOC to vouch for me, but I've held back because I agree it is inappropriate.

I don't know that it is inappropriate. If this is your third time, you might be near your last chance so I figure, what do you have to lose by doing it? I am a believer in fighting for what you want. I don't see it as unethical or immoral, so if they will do it for you, maybe it will help. Which is my next point, I'd be surprised if it would help since all they really care about from the MOC is the nomination. The Academy then is comparing kids across ALL applications, stacking kids and drawing a line and you are either above or below the line. Wish you the best

They already know who you are.

You stand out because you have demonstrated perseverance for three cycles in a row. You have earned a nom each time, no small accomplishment, and that already speaks volumes about the support of the MOC. This could be the year they see you as a fit for the class, or not. Either way, a call from the MOC would not likely swing the pendulum your way. Nor should it, as Admissions will evaluate you on the same factors as everyone else.

I believe appointments are ultimately up to the academy. As previously stated, the MOC can express support for a candidate by giving them the principle nomination. I also believe in putting up a fight (which is why i'm here... a third time lol) but I don't plan to go to extreme lengths until necessary (i.e. emailing, calling, etc). I like to think that at this point, USAFA knows whether or not they want me. My application can speak for itself.
