Multiple charges in one year to MOC?

After our experience with the nomination process this year, if DS ends up getting an appointment after all I don't know that I would want our MOC to take credit for him (I'm being funny but also serious...). If an applicant knows they were turned down for a nomination by an MOC but they get placed through another nomination source and the MOC tried to take credit for said student just because they were in their district...do they ever pitch a fit? Pretty sure I would...
Before getting too angry, make sure that you examine the actual words used from the MOCs office. In my district,
the announcement is along the lines of "Look at the amazing young people from our district" and not "Look
at the young people who I have sent to the SAs". I think that difference is important.

Fair...that's a good point. Our MOC wouldn't give my re-applicant son a nomination this year (although she did last year plus one to West Point he didn't even ask for...and I know...we don't know what the applicant pool looks like this year) because he needs a waiver for colorblindness (the panel spent most of the 15 minute interview period grilling him about his waiver status). We spoke to admissions who consoled us that although the MOC's are free to run their nomination process however they choose, he may still be eligible to for the VP or Superintendant's nomination so not to give up. I'm still a little salty at our representative though, or at least her staffers...doubt she even knows anything about it. Sometimes mom's get that way.

But as long as they are just showcasing local success and not taking personal credit I guess I wouldn't go to the trouble of blowing a gasket.

If your son gets an Appointment...there will be much better things to focus on. The MOC panel I sit on...we dont ask about medical issues or waivers. We let the SA's address that.

So incredibly sensible!!! They should have you run a training for all the congressional staffers charged with organizing the interview panels.
In my district, the panel are all retired military from the different branches, and staff are more clerical in nature. The truth is these people are doing excellent work and volunteering their time. Great people.

Lol - my son walked out of his and said the Navy guy just stared at him with a mean look while others asked questions. He said he thought it was meant to be intimidating but my son ignored it. One of them busted on him about his grades and everyone laughed. My son is experienced with being busted on and laughed right along.

Here is what our congressman tweeted last year for the CO 2026. It doesn't bother me either way ... I was just scratching my head - like, how can there be 10 of them? :D (and I know for sure that he only had 1 slot at USNA, because this year he had 2 - yay!)

Crow held an info meeting for all candidates, and he is truly proud of this responsibility as he is a veteran himself. Great staff, great interview, son got the nom in December - just a really good experience overall.

Press Release
Parsippany, NJ–– Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) announced today the 29 students from New Jersey's 11th Congressional District appointed to the U.S. Service Academies. These students will begin their education and service careers this year at the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Rep. Sherrill hosted an event to recognize the students this week in Denville.
"As a graduate of a service academy, I am truly honored to now have the congressional responsibility to nominate students from my district to these distinguished institutions. Each and every one of these students demonstrate impressive levels of commitment to their academics, extracurricular pursuits, and community, which will serve them well as they enter our nation's service academies. I am proud of their decision to serve our country and wish them the best of luck going forward," said Rep. Sherrill.

See my post above -

The elected official usually cheerfully takes credit for anyone from their state or district - regardless of where the nom came from or where the appointment is charged.
The MOCs may not necessarily be taking credit but recognizing the achievement of their constituents.:) Our office hosts an annual reception to honor all the constituents from our congressional district who have received appointments to the service academies, including our MOC's nominees, the senators', presidential, etc.

FYI, the MOC may choose to host an academy appointee reception and recognize all the students from their congressional district who have accepted appointment offers to the academies, no matter what the nomination source! It's an opportunity for the MOC to congratulate constituents on their achievement and for the appointees from the district to meet other appointees that are attending the same academy. The press announcement might indicate: "The Representative honored appointees residing in the #### Congressional District and received a nomination from a Member of Congress, the Vice President, or other nomination source."
