Honor Roll all life( 1 C+ on a 9weeks grade but semesters are fine..mostly B's on most recent semester though)
GPA:3.59
Honor Classes: College Credit Pre Calculus, AP History, College Credit Physics, College Credit English,( can take AP Speech, AP Calculus, and AP Chem next year too), by the end of my Jr year i will have accumulated 19 College Credit hours

National Honor Society
Business Professionals of America
FFA
Science Club
Chess Club
1 year of Student Council
2 Potential years of Rocket Team
2 Potential years of Robotics Team
1 potential year of Cross Country
and i will probably start learning a combative sport such as boxing or a martial art

I think they look at ACT or PSAT or SAT scores?
How do those look for you?
 
You need to show leadership, which you may have but didn't mention. Positions like president, team captain, and not secretary. You're weak on athletics. Keep in mind that your application is going to basically be limited to your accomplishments in these areas thru your junior year, so you need to get on that now! A lot will also depend on SAT/ACT scores. Plan on taking both multiple times as most do better their second time. More emphasis will be given to your math scores. From your ECs I would guess your strong in math and they certainly indicate an interest in a STEM major. A lot will depend on your choice of major but a STEM Major will have a better shot. Start your application in April which is when I believe it opens up. Apply to NASS.

And remember your chances are zero if you don't apply. Work hard, fill in the gaps and go for it.
 
Even if you did everything kinnem states that you should do (i.e. if you had the perfect application), it still is no guarantee of being accepted for NASS. NASS is primarily a recruiting tool where geographical diversity and under-represented areas are targeted.

In other words, candidates with current stats (whether academic, leadership, sports, etc) that are less than what an Admissions Board might deem acceptable, could be invited over someone who might have a more competitive record.

So bottom line is just to apply. If you get in great! If not, then don't let that hinder you from applying! And if you do get accepted, don't lie down on Cloud 9. There are many NASS attendees who do not receive appointments. REMEMBER what the GOAL is!

Unless, you live on a dairy farm, have a designated list of chores, get up every morning at 5:30, do a hour's strenuous activity, get yelled at by upperclassmen when you go to school, your question should be, "Will NASS really give me a true picture of what life would be like for a plebe or mid?"

Hopefully, my son is going to NASS from the midwest. If you're in CA, that's and extra couple of ours on the plane and a couple of hundred airfare.

However far your home is from MD, it will seem longer from Annapolis, MD to your home.

I don't mean to be flip, just giving you the same treatment I have given to my own sons. And no, we don't live on a dairy farm.

What i heard is that if you go to the Summer Seminar theres like 33% or 66% (One of those or something around there) of coming back. If you get accepted and re-apply the next year it shows you really want to attend and you get the perspective of cadet life in the academy.
