Does anyone know where to get confirmation which SWAB companies will board Eagle on the afternoon of the Mystic Flag ceremony July 27th (which as it happens will not take place in Mystic because the seaport is booked for another event)?
That said I am trying to figure out if it's even worth flying in from Texas if my DS Bravo company will quickly turnaround and leave with Eagle that same day, and I would only be able to spend 15-30mns total of time together (vs. a few hours I spent with my other DS in 2019 Class of '23).
Appreciate any info. Thank you.

At this point, I think it's too early to tell. I'm involved with the Parents Association Communications Committee, and so far there's been no info on location or time. We're planning on having a table with snacks, water, etc., but still have no details.

We try to get info posted on the PA Facebook page as soon as it's available, but this obviously isn't your first rodeo and you know how it goes!! 😂

Tough call on the trip. Like you mention, my guess is if they attend Flag Ceremony at all, it probably won't be much time. You'd probably have better luck catching Eagle on a port call!

Congratulations on having 2 CGA kiddos!

Thank you! I guess we will find out soon enough. Happy 4th!

The Parents Association newsletter had the Eagle schedule. Sent out yesterday. "Alpha, Bravo, Charlie depart July 29 enroute Rockland, Maine".

Will Alpha Bravo and Charlie be at Fag Day?

According to the briefing we received on R-day, all swabs would be able to participate in this year's Flag Ceremony, but the venue had not been finalized. There was talk of a scheduling conflict with Mystic Seaport and potentially holding the ceremony at Fort Trumbull State Park in New London. As far as I know, the venue has not been finalized.

Latest update is that the venue is confirmed for Fort Trumbull, that all platoons will be in attendance, and that all platoons will have liberty in the afternoon. There is usually a brief time to see your swab at the ceremony, but then they will be bussed back to the Academy after the ceremony before being granted liberty from approximately 1:30pm-6pm.

According to the schedule published yesterday, ALL swabs and cadre will have time with their families from 8:30 to 9:30 am at Ft. Trumbull (between practice and the ceremony) as well as liberty from 1:30 to 6:00.

I would strongly encourage all parents (who havent already) to join the Class of 2028 Parents and CGA Parents Association FB pages. All the official information is posted on those pages.

Just be sure to manage expectations regarding times and schedule of events. If last year’s flag day is any indicator, parents are free to hang out and socialize , but the swabs sort of get there when they get there in the morning.

For the families sake, I hope there’s an hour before hand to hang out, but that seems optimistic. Who knows, several things are different this year, maybe this will be one of them! Was happy with about 15 minutes last year after they marched in! 😆

Same for goes for liberty, I realize 1:30 is published, but remember, liberty is an earned privilege, and ultimately the cadre will grant liberty to the swabs who earned it whenever they’re ready.

I remember realizing for the first time last year for Flag ceremony the harsh reality that parents and families are pretty much inconsequential. It’s not the job of the cadre to care how far people travelled, or how long they’re standing there waiting.

That said, be sure to have them back with plenty of time to spare! The gate backs up so take that into consideration! You don’t want them to suffer more than they are already because they’re late! There is no excuse that will make it ok! I remember last year, they got yelled at to march into the quad right at 1800. A few of us parents were standing around talking and here comes a dad and his swab daughter walking up Bear drive at about 6:05. I peaked in the quad as the poor girl went in. Ugh! Felt so bad for her!

Anyway, those of you who are going, have a great time!!! Every minute is truly precious!!!!
