NAPS Question

I have been feeling very discouraged recently because I did not receive a nomination from any of my sources, however I am wondering what the process for getting into NAPS is. I do not want to give up on this journey to the academy as I, like many others, have been striving for this for four years. It seems like such a waste to just close my application and be done with it.

Here are a couple of my questions, I am sure I will have more as responses come in:

1. How would USNA select me for NAPS if I am unable to submit my general application without a nomination?

2. Am I even able to be considered for NAPS if I don't have a nom in the first place?

.
Ignore the Nominations for the moment ... NAPS does not require a nomination from any of your MOCs.

Did you complete your Application to the USNA for the class of 2024? Completing your USNA application is a requirement. If you did finish your application, it is possible to get a NAPS appointment based on other factors .... experts on this Forum will be able to provide more on what those considerations may be.
.
Don’t loose hope.

There is no process for getting into NAPS. USNA reviews all applications and decides to whom it wants to offer NAPS. There are dozens of threads on this. Usually it’s because USNA sees something it wants in the applicant but determines some element, academic but not always, needs polishing.

It seems to me I have seen people submit their applications knowing they do not have an elected official or other nom. Presumably you have applied for the VP, a long shot to be sure, but someone gets those. If you don’t apply at all, guaranteed you will not get an offer of any kind.

If it happens you submit, and don’t have a nom of any kind, it is likely USNA will tell you “not this year” and close your file. This is not the end of the world.

You should be working on your alternative plans to a commission, to include NROTC. There is a complete section on USNA.edu for college re-applicants, with excellent advice. You can ask for an NROTC nom next year, one of the great benefits of the program, in addition to re-applying to elected officials. If you still don’t get into USNA, you are already on a path to a Navy or MC commission. There is no downside to demonstrating perseverance and tenacity.

I have not submitted it yet as I did not know whether or not I was getting a nom, or if I could submit without one. I will now that I know I can still try for a spot at the very least.

I will look into the VP Nom and try for it as well. I am working on NROTC-MO currently (PFT and Officer Interview, already submitted online portion) and am hopeful for that avenue to be opened up to me.

Good .... Please complete your USNA application in a diligent manner. I think the deadline is January 31st, but sooner is usually better. Take time on your Essay(s). Have someone critique them for you (English or other teacher, parent?)

Practice the events in your CFA before you take it. It is important to do the best you can on this. Give yourself time before January 31st to take your CFA a 2nd time if you failed or can significantly improve on some events.

Good luck.

The VP nom is relatively easy to apply for - no interviews. USNA picks who gets them.

As others have noted, not having a NOM doesn't prevent you from submitting the application, and you don't need a Nomination to go to NAPS. That said, you aren't applying for NAPS ...you are applying to USNA.

NAPS doesn't exist to provide a back door into USNA for someone without a NOM. However, if USNA see's something special in your application, they could offer you NAPS.

Bottom line, 100% of those that don't complete the application don't get into USNA ! If you are really striving for Admission, get your Application in, you have nothing to lose.
