Hey everyone,

I have a question regarding accepting/declining decisions for the Naval Academy Summer Seminar. I understand that it is a "rolling application," as it is said on the application page. I also received an email that decisions will come out no later than April 15th. So, if it is rolling, does this mean I could hear back from them sooner rather than later since I submitted it a day after the application was released? Does anyone know when we might hear back from USNA regarding decisions? Maybe someone from the application pool in recent years would have some insight. Thank you guys!

Yes you “may” hear back sooner

I applied March 14th ( this was literally like one day before the deadline if memory serves) and was accepted April 9th and decisions last year came out no later that April 28th.

Good on you for applying early!

I low key applied as a after thought because I was so sure I wanted to go to West Point, and then I never even finished my West Point application because after summer seminar I knew I belonged at Navy.

Go Navy, Beat Army!

( though you should apply for SLE, west points summer seminar thing too imo)

I really appreciate the quick response and the insight!

To be honest... West Point is #1 in my heart, haha, and I very much looking forward to applying for SLE. But, despite being a West Point family, I have a draw to USNA and the Navy. I have no experience with any Navy life as my dad has been in the Army for all my life, and I am very curious about it so I think NASS would be a great experience for that. Thanks again!

I have had students accepted into the program in early February, so 'yes,' the rolling selection process starts fairly early and lasts into April as noted. Good luck!

2024 Received a 'Regrets we can't have you join us for NASS' email late April, not even a waitlist offer - rather disappointed, but had a cool summer job lined up....then out of the blue a 'Congratulations we'll see you at NASS' email in early May! Job totally understood and gave the week off! Loved it hoping for class of 29'. Good luck to you, Go Navy!

Congrats to you and good luck for the class of 29'!

If you don’t receive an invite, please do t take it as meaning anything about your competitiveness, or USNA’s ‘interest in you’. It’s a marketing tool to spread awareness of USNA.

If you do not attend, maybe reach out about possibly a CVW. You sound like potentially a good candidate for that: someone looking to figure out if USNA/Navy is a good fit.

Good luck!

Be diligent checking email (and spam folders).

If you have not heard something (congrats or sorry) by first week in April, I would follow up with admissions directly.

Candidate I was helping last year got an email on April 9 referencing a notification email and indicating payment had not been made. The referenced notification email was never received (confirmed by IT Personnel).

Payment was due April 10 - the next day - or slot would be forfeited. And portal for payment was down. Extra stress in that household.

Email specifically suggested candidates check spam email.

Might be a dumb question, but what is a CVW?

Candidate Visit Weekend. It is a way for prospective candidates to spend a few days on the Yard living with a Plebe and seeing what daily life is like (sort of).

USNA term - Candidate Visit Weekend. Get assigned to a mid, bunk in their room, shadow to class and activities, ask questions of “Real Mids,” unfiltered, unprogrammed. Not a choreographed experience like NASS.

Yes, a candidate visit weekend is the real peak into a day in the life of a Mid.

Got it, that sounds really neat! I will have to look into that if not accepted to NASS.

CVW is invitation only. You don't sign up for it like NASS or STEM.
Correct. You would reach out to your BGO or admissions counselor. It’s designed for competitive candidates who need exposure to see if USNA is a good fit. It’s not designed for students who have spent time on the Yard (read: y’all reading this, don’t bug your reps if this isn’t your situation), or are already all-in for USNA. And it has zero bearing on your application (you don’t get points for attending, for example).

But for somone who is a competitive candidate, and isn’t sure? Who has only been exposed to Army? And hasn’t completed any other on campus outreach? That’s a good prospect.

A CVW is nice too since you can personalize it to a degree with a little effort on your part. If you want to experience something that your host isn't involved with, then usually there is someone in their friend group or company that does it. They can hand you off temporarily. It is a good way to get a peek at a sport or ECA that you are interested in, or at least talk to people who do it.
