i found this you tube video and it's kinda long but a pictures worth a thousand words right?? (it's half slideshow) it answered alot of my questions about nass lol

haha if you think that song is inappropriate, then you havent heard midshipmen talk hahah :shake:. They talk like sailors.... hahah

Never met a more impressive group of young men and women though.

I have a couple questions about NASS, I was hoping to go to the USAFA summer seminar but I live in Massachusetts so it would be a pain to fly out by myself, so my second choice is USNA Summer Seminar. Is NASS looked highly upon for the application to going to USNA. And is NASS worth it because school isn't even out until June 21 which means I would be missing 4-5 days going to NASS right before finals.

Bingal, I can't answer how the application board looks at NASS, but i can answer that it is worth it. I went this past summer, I had to miss school for it too. I would suggest applying for session 1 then you will be at school for review week before finals i would think.
 
Well, I loved NASS, so I would encourage you to go. It gives you the smallest most distilled taste of what life could be like for you at the Naval Academy.

I heard that NASS is looked upon pretty well, as its a competetive program... but I'm not on the admissions board (if only! :biggrin:) so I don't know.
 
The admissions board views NASS as advantageous to a candidate in that the candidate will have a realistic view of life at the academy. One of the biggest fears that the admissions board has is that a candidate receives an appointment, shows up on I-Day, and then quits during Plebe Summer.

The principal reason to go to NASS is to fully understand, and embrace, what you'll go through during the four-year marathon of attending USNA.
 
My son loved NASS, he was able to pick his planned major and was totally focused on finishing his application as soon as we arrived home. His summation..."Dad, I'm coming back here!"

My wife and I were lucky in that we drove up (from FL) to pick him up and were able to walk around for a day and we spied on him lol He was in his glory and we thought we were being secretive till his Platoon came to attention one day on the Sea Trials field and yelled up to where we were standing "HELLO MR. AND MRS. *****! Caught me completely off guard as I was talking to another mother about the Academy!

Wow, that must have been so cool! I remember things like that happening during the regular year. Our son was at NASS, but we did not see him because we live in MD and didn't go until the last day. However, we did go to New London for Coast Guard AIM (same type of week as NASS). When we were coming out of the "EAGLE" visitor's center, we saw our son marching with his company, he was also in his glory--looked so great. It was funny we tried to hide, and when he caught our eyes he just did his little "oh no, they are here looking at me before it is time for me to go home" head shake. But he smiled and off they went. It would be so awesome if he becomes a member of USNA 2013 and marches in the full dress parade for his dad's 25th reunion next year (his dad is USNA 84)...Here's hoping and waiting....Have a great day!
 
I highly recommend NASS. I attended Session II 2008. It was great. I am still friends with my squad members and we were only in real contact with each other for 4 or 5 days.

We did not take the video. I wish we could get the video the Academy had at the closing ceremony, my son was in a lot of pictures there. Anyone know how to get that video?
 
OMG...never saw this before(NASS 2006). My D (now a firstie) was one of the NASS cadre and my S (now a youngster) was attending. I found them both in this video. My youngest D attended this past NASS...she came home finished her application, received her LOA, received her medical waiver and today got her nomination.

S is getting ready for the MOC interview at high noon today and this will be an inspiration for him!

Hi, I had seen the video, my son was also in session one (I think Hotel or Echo--got it confused with USCGA). I saw this video, there is one glimpse of my son in one of the squad pix--very cool.
I don't know where the Academy's slide show might be...but maybe we could ask the admissions office sometime during a lull when we don't have anything else to pester them with :-)
Congratulations X 3! to Midmomof2 although changing to Midmomof3 won't work because the firstie is graduating...maybe she could be USNAmomof3 :-) Just a thought!!! I would just love to have that "problem"!

I read what Maximus wrote and wanted to let you know the sea story is true. I know because my wife was the person they were talking to when this happened.
