I was thinking to join Spanish Honor Society because I felt I could show more with it, but I heard that there are special points for being in National Honor Society when applying to USAFA. Is this true? Does Spanish Honor Society count the same? Both take up a lot of time, which is why I have to choose one.

Which one can you hold a leadership position in? Which one would mean more to you? Being a cadet is about managing your time, if you managed your time would you be able to do both?

Think about which one will develop you as a leader, not which one USAFA would like better.

Personally I joined French National Honor Society because language is something I love and care about. I feel like Spanish NHS would be more personalized. At my school it is possible to be in multiple Honor Societies so if you could do both it would be good but if you can only choose one I say go for what feels better for you.

I would be surprised if anyone drew a distinction between the two.

Similar to what Jarhead said, which one are you more passionate about? Which one does more? Which one will help develop your leadership more through active opportunities to lead?

Usually you are invited to join those honor societies...and if you were invited to both you could join both.

To be inducted into NHS, in general you need the four pillars: Scholarship, Service, Leadership and Character.

Guess what colleges/Service Academies are looking for? Scholarship, Service, Leadership and Character.

So NHS is a way of the school honoring the students who excel in those four pillars. That is a very good thing! We honor football players and band members and such...let's also honor academics!

Also, parents love to see their children publicly honored.

So if the question is:

1) I don't want to bother to apply - don't worry, colleges care about what would get you into NHS, not necessarily the title. But your parents sure would be proud.

2) I did not get in. don't worry, colleges care about what would get you into NHS, not necessarily the title.

So make sure you find ways to exhibit Scholarship, Service, Leadership and Character even if you don't have the "title" of NHS.
