Hello all,

The other day, I posted on here that I was able to receive a nomination to USAFA a couple weeks ago, and was being individually reviewed by the selection committee. My ALO told me that I had three BIG advantages:
I was being looked at again by the selection committee. I am female. And, that I am a diversity candidate (Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander).
Does anyone know if diversity candidates have been highly sought after in the past? Has anyone been put in contact with a diversity officer?
My ALO and counselor told me that they would be surprised if I didn’t earn some type of offer and helped me get this nomination last minute. I am not expecting anything at this point, just patiently waiting. I am honored to take part in this process and motivated by all of the other outstanding candidates this year.

You should expect to win! You bring your own unique attributes, talents, and qualities, just like all candidates. My DS is waiting, too. Aloha

No one here can speculate on your chances, that is up to admissions. It sounds like you are heading in the right direction, but don't assume things until you have an appointment in your hand. Best of luck and thank you for your willingness to serve.

Being a Hawaiian/Pacific Islander is one of many considerations in the admission process. It is not the only consideration. You must be academically qualified, physically qualified, and medically qualified. Your file will be reviewed like everyone else. Your uniqueness will be considered just like everyone's uniqueness is considered. This is where the ALO evaluation, your teacher evaluations, recommendations, resume, and essays play a role. Good luck!

My daughter is also Pacific Islander and was told the same. She was just appointed today, medically qualified but not PPQ, ACT 33, SAT 1440, 3.97 GPA, good PFT scores but not great, NHS, AFJROTC Corp Commander, Rifle team/4 yrs/Lettered, 125 hours volunteer hrs, attended girl state, other more minor items. Did it help? Not sure, but it definetly doesn't hurt.

Congratulations on her appointment! You must be so blessed to have a DD so dedicated to serve her community and country. I am in the same boat as her. We share very similar leadership positions and GPA. Although, my only weakness is my test scores. I am also not PPQ, which eliminates the possibility of a falcon scholarship. What state are you from?

Thank you. We're a military family. Texas transplant, from Hawaii.

I know it's hard, but keep the faith. Daughter is undecided about acceptance as she had fully moved forward with plan B thinking she wouldn't receive an appointment. There's always hope until the TWE. Good luck!
