Did you guys interview with a Blue & Gold officer? Were you briefed about going back into a Naval Training environment? Not having liberty?
Just curious. Personally, I think being a fleet returnee has advantages
Being deployed to the Persian Gulf and fighting for the country is training enough.
I personally never interviewed with a Blue and Gold Officer. However, I did sit down with my CO, XO, and Admin O (all Academy Alum) and questioned as to my intentions, why I wanted to attend USNA and not achieve a commission via other means, what I believed encompasses a Naval Officer, et cetera. Not to mention, keeping my shoes shined, uniform pristine and demeanor flawless as I work for these gentleman on a daily basis.
The beauty of Great Lakes is being taught the ability to adapt. That being said, being put back into a formal training environment is the least of my worries. I hope we are more suited in the arena of being able to help those away from home for the first time and those that aren't adapted to the Navy way of life.
We are all young officers in the making - retaining the mindset of an enlisted man or acting as a fleet returnee would not only be detrimental to our careers, but to those we will train and serve with.
