Can anyone advise if there are Navy diver officers other than EOD? My DS is going NROTC and is interested in diving.

While I can't speak specific to an answer your looking for I can say this. My son is now a 1st. Class Mid at the U of South Carolina. Throughout his time there his mind on which community he is going to go for has changed. He started out wanting to be a pilot, when he finished his 2nd class cruise he wanted subs, upon completion of his 1st class cruise he wants surface ships. Has your DS been awarded the scholarship? Congrats if yes.

The Navy Engineering Duty Officer (EDO, not to be confused with EOD community) is a restricted line officer community with some diving officer components.

It's a relatively small community, and I am not sure of the path from NROTC. All of the EDO officers I have known over the years got their Surface Warfare qualification first, then went to Naval Postgrad School for engineering master's, then on to their career as an EDO.

Special Warfare/SEAL officers have been known to dive now and then...

BT3, Yes he did get the scholarship. I'm very proud of him. Thanks for the response and congrats to you and your son.

Thank you. My DD is now going through the process. She is all done with the NROTC application and is almost done with the Academy application. Much easier this time for us and for her. We all know how difficult it is to see a kid get one or the other.
