Navy Football D1 Recruits

I’ll never forget coming across a social media post, where the football player accepted his appointment and was joining USNA. Transferring in his college credits and graduating early. And majoring in something not offered (I THINK I recall it was Criminal Justice) 🤦‍♀️ Wish I had noted his name. Curious if he still is there. It was on Twitter and IG, and deleted rather quickly.

Eyes wide open!
It is somewhat common for some kids to pretend to commit to schools, including Navy, on Twitter. The last two years there was even an entire organized league of people playing NCAA football on Xbox who took to Twitter and IG to act like they were committing to the schools they were playing for. I suspect the account you found was fake.

This thread focuses on football, but there are many other sports played at the academies. Football, perhaps unfairly, is viewed as a sport where the athletes are academically substandard. That is not the case in many other sports. In some, it is common to find kids who are both elite students and athletes. Elite academic and athletic students are presumably what the academies aspire to attract and accept. The big 3 academies would lose out on many of these candidates if they chose to go D3, mine included. It's OK to want to play your sport at the highest level, and also serve your country. As so many point out here daily, there is more than one path to a commission. If you don't have the academic chops to get in on your own accord, or the athletic ability to be recruited, then explore another option. Some here question the authenticity of an athlete's willingness to serve if they aren't willing to give up their athletic dream and play D3. Perhaps we should do the same for the non-athletes who don't consider ROTC and OCS with equal fervor.

FWIW, USNA Athletes as a whole do fairly well academically. According to the NCAA, USNA is one of the best when it comes to Athletic team GPAs.
This year in the USNA class of 2021, there were 18 varsity athletes who graduated with Distinction - the top 10% of the class. To expand on that, 18 of the 103 highest tanked graduates were varsity athletes including the actual top grad who was a varsity Lightweight crew team member. Seven of the top eleven grads were varsity athletes.

This is the fifth year in a row, the eighth time in the last 10 years and 15th time since 2000 in which the No. 1 graduate on the Overall Order of Merit is a varsity sport athlete.

Also FWIW, It was just announced that Navy just won its 7th straight "Patriot League Presidents Cup" which is the overall/all sports championship of the Patriot League so overall athletic performance is pretty good.
