Navy ROTC news? (navy option)

We filed before the last board date in February and still have not heard. In other posts I made, some with experience have said that they announce most of their scholarships by the end of April.

I'm a bit lost on the whole process within the school. My son was accepted to BU and that's where he really wants to be. We also have acceptances at Purdue and Penn State. So what is the likelihood that he receives the Scholarship, but there is no room at BU? And what is this I hear that if he only gets a partial Scholarship, that maybe the school offers them scholarships to fill the gap? Do they do this only for ROTC students?

Also want to add that we had to fish for answers to questions. The Coordinator was ok, but I really feel they should have told us so much more about the process and what it entails, tips on what's best to do, majors selection, Board meetings, how to interact with the ROTC people at the universities if we have questions, etc.... I felt like I was the Coordinator for my DS.

I can only answer one of these questions, but the odds are extremely low that the unit is filled, from what I've heard. That normally only happens at really big, popular units(ND, Texas A M, Virginia Tech).

completed application, including interview a few months ago. When does the next board meet/publish results?

Thank you for making me a little less worried about a spot at BU. He has his heart set on BU. And yes, I had seen the board dates, so I guess we just have to wait till the end of April. My DS's application was FedEx'd to Pensacola on February 19th. No word yet. Thanks again for reassuring me that there might be a spot left this late in the game. Now, let's hope and pray he gets the Scholarship.

Yes, it is rare for a unit to fill their allotment of scholarship spots, especially at a highly selective university. As for the "partial scholarships" you mentioned, those are generally AFROTC or AROTC. The scholarship your DS applied for now is the NRTOC 4 year national scholarship. All of these are 4 year awards and cover full tuition and mandatory fees, plus a book stipend and monthly living stipend. The scholarship does not cover room and board. Some universities also provide full or partial room and board, but this is from the individual university, not the Navy. I posted a link for you in another thread that shows all the things the scholarship does and does not cover. If you go the the Additional Benefits tab, it also shows what additional assistance the individual universities offer. Additionally, if your DS does not earn a scholarship now, there are plenty of opportunities to earn a scholarship while participating in NROTC as a college program midshipman. These are known as sideload scholarships. He can also re-apply for the 4 year national scholarship as a freshman in college (Navy option only). There is lots of information out there, but you have to look for it. I suggest your DS thoroughly go through the information on the site I posted in the other thread and use the search function on this site for threads on related topics.
