NCAA ID for Athlete

Do USCGA athletes need the Final Amateurism Certification from NCAA?
Most USCGA sports compete under D3, which does not require the final amateurism certification. However, there are some USCGA sports that compete in D2 and D1, which then yes, you would need the certification.

Adding on to what TriMom said - I think the one exception to not needing it for D3 sports is if you're an international student. If you're international, you need it regardless of division.

My son has one bc he was recruited for D1 - but you do not need for D3. You can also do the free one. The NLI is also just for ceremonial purposes for D3 My son will be playing baseball at CGA.

Can future cadets sign an NLI? DS wants to participate in signing day at his school but doesn’t know if an NLI is allowed with. USCGA.

Yes. The CGA coach sent over an official ceremonial certificate to ‘sign’ for my baseball player. He just did the April signing day. You just don’t need to send it back. That’s for any D3 school.

I think Sailing is the only d1 program right now. Shooting/pistol used to be but it's been dropped to a club.

Also, the federal service academies do not participate in NLI like most other institutions.
Despite NCAA action on 30 June 2021 which suspended Name, Image & Likeness rules for
collegiate athletes, federal law and regulation prohibit federal employees from profiting on their
NIL in their official capacities
