I've already been awarded a scholarship - is there any reason I would need to keep my account active/still need to access it?

Did you receive your packet for NSI? The only thing having your account remain active is it can make it jist a little easier for NSTC to see you in their system. But if your unit is tracking you heading there, then it doesn't matter. The system resets itself with the new application cycle.

Capt. Myers - my son never got a packet in the mail after receiving an email informing him of his scholarship, but we did print the NSI instructions off the website, is that all he needs? Thanks!

Sorry, I meant Meyers! :)
I already saw the misspelling and cried.....so there's nothing more to be done. 🤨

I will check if they decided to stop mailing packages, but assuming you printed everything off, that should be fine.

Just to make extra certain, your DS should contact the unit and confirm which NSI class he is assigned. Make sure he has the required funds which I think are supposed to be in a credit or debit card format but can't remember.

Thanks - he is still trying to decide on attending USNA or his 1st or 2nd choice school so that complicates it a little (and I know the deadline to get an assignment changed between school choices before NSI is 4/15, or else he'd need to attend with the 1st choice school and change schools after NSI), so as soon as that gets determined we'll ask the school. Thanks again!

Required Funds? Can you explain?

On the NSI packet, there is mention that they can't accept cash for most purchases. So Mids should show up with a prepaid credit or debit card. But that information is buried in the packet. So folks need to read through it carefully.

My understanding is a candidate will get their per diem allowance while at NSI, which for a 4/c ain't much. Great example of an old marching chant we had during basic training in the Army ....... "They give you a hundred dollars, and take back ninety-nine."

So you're discussing what they get paid. I think the previous question dealt with funds they need to have with them. To pay for toiletries and other small items.

Understood, sir. They ask you to bring $250 out of your own pocket, and give you a stipend while you're there which is almost the same. Bring your own money, spend it, and we'll tease you with a "paycheck" after. Balances out to a net zero gain. ;)
