A new Coast Guard book came out today, "Rescue Warriors: The U.S. Coast Guard, America's Forgotten Heroes" by David Helvarg.
I bought my copy and started reading. It's very easy to read. So far, it's been spot on. What I like a lot about it, the book isn't lip service and all USCG talking points. He is sometimes critical, sometimes funny, and generally very accurate.
Two thumbs up from me. Helvarg was given a great deal of access to CG units, travelled all over the country, interviewed many many Coasties, and I believe has done us justice. It's always interesting to see names of people you know in a book, and I recognize a number of names so far.
So, if you do purchase this book, enjoy!
