Hi Everyone,

I'm a 49 year old former US Marine (rose to rank of E-4 after an illustrious 4 year career) whom got through college using the old VEAP program in the mid-to-late 1980s and am currently in my 23 year of federal employment.

I have three sons (ages 19, 15 and 14), all interested (in varying degrees) in careers in the US military.

With my considerable influence (I remember Parris Island too well), they seek officer ranking.

My oldest had a 3.8 GPA in high school and played sports throughout. National Honor Society. Track captain. Boys State. Lead guitar in his own garage band. Community volunteer (church). Tutored younger kids. Model UN Club. Got $25K/year scholarship to a New England college. Just finished freshman year. Majoring in computer science. Interested in law also. Dean's list - 3.8 GPA. Working part-time since he was 15. Bit of a communist (I'm joking, kind of), politically speaking, but what teen isn't? Thinking about ROTC, later JAG, etc. Fond of Air Force.

My middle son is particularly enamored of a West Point appointment. Loves the Army. Superior academic record - A's in everything. Very imposing physically (6 foot, 160 pounds and shaves daily at age 15). Baseball player - hits the ball a mile and plays a mean center field. Center on football team. Shy, though.

My youngest is perhaps the best natural leader and athlete (hockey captain) of the three, but his academic performance is somewhat less than brilliant, though he is smart as a whip. Would love to be a US Marine, even as an enlisted E-1 (which I have tried endlessly to dissuade him from doing.)

Looking for any all information on this site that I can use to help them.

Having trouble with the myriad of acronyms, though (what's a "DS"? anyway).

Regards,
Day-Tripper

Welcome aboard, Day Tripper. You'll find a wealth of information here, of use to all your boys. Let us know if you have any specific questions; otherwise feel free to read up and just hang out. DS means Dear Son in forum-speak. There's also an acronym thread in the Community Information section you may find helpful as well.
