Hello all! I'm the father of a son (who will be a senior in the fall) who always wanted to serve his country for as long as I can remember. He's taking his second round of SATs tomorrow (he wasn't happy with his first score) and though he's focused on a few of the academies (particularly, West Point), we're also scheduled to visit VMI in July (he's also looking into The Citadel as a friend of his is looking to going there). I'm here to try to research any info on these and want to thank all in advance for providing tips, research, and opinions.

We visited VMI several years ago. The place is a amazing!

Welcome! You have come to the right place. Best of luck to your son. Happy to answer any Citadel questions (from a parent's perscpective)

Welcome!

It may be useful to find The Acronym List on the home page. Stress relief can be found in stellar threads in Off-Topic (paraphrasing actual thread titles, but you’ll see them if you scroll):

Welcome to SAF. Happy to help with questions regarding VMI. I have a 2023 DS Cadet and we are active with Parents Council.

If he's still not happy with his SAT score, I'll suggest trying the ACT. Both my kids did much better on this test. Encourage your son to look into the various ROTC programs as plan B. Both routes lead to the same goal.

DD had committed to VMI and was headed there until she received Naval Foundation school offer. It was a toss up between VMI and Norwich, both excellent schools . VMI for several reasons became her top choice primarily because of the swim team . It’s a pretty special place and we were both very impressed . I also recommend to have your DS son take both the SAT and ACT to see which format he is most comfortable with .
