No Appointment or TWE....just Crickets

As I sit here waiting for news, I wonder if earning a FF scholarship is worth going to college for 5 years. Does a degree is Aero look better from USAFA then getting one from a top engineering school--University of Illinois?

I have also been offered an appointment to USMMA which I originally planned to accept. However, I called USAFA admissions and was told to "hold off" on making my decision as long as possible. This is strange because someone else in this thread previously said they were told to lock in on their 2nd choice at this point.

Honestly, one of your top reasons, if not the very top reason, for going to a SA should be to become an officer. If all you really want is an Aero degree, then University of Illinois should be your choice (IMNHO)

You better accept the appointment at USMMA by May 1 unless you just don't want to go to USMMA. There are many candidates on the wait list. That is "as long as possible" without losing that opportunity.

To be honest I don't know the answer to that question. But I can tell you that an Engineering degree is very impressive to have no matter what. Having one from a top school looks even better. Also going to school for 5 years isn't that bad as your course load is less every semester. So if you don't want to take on a crazy course load it will be in your best interest, especially since you will be on a scholarship so you wouldn't really have to worry about that extra year of student loans. Just my two cents but it should be a decision that you make.

I hope the waiting for everyone is over soon. My son just told me that a few of the cadets he is currently at USAFA with this year told him they were originally given a letter of denial when they applied and towards the end of May last year they were then sent a letter of appointment. This was due to spots that opened up at the last minute he was told. I sure hope our kids don't have to wait that long this year.

Portal updated today.... USAFA Online Application V2.48 dated 26 April 2016...What does this mean?!?!- Still a Candidate!

My goal is to be a pilot as a commissioned officer; however, I am just planning for what's ahead.

USAFA regularly updates the software/server stuff running the portal. It doesn't mean anything. Hang on!!

I wonder, when those who did receive a TWE and then an offer for an appointment, did they get an email to check their portal?

The young man that I know got a phone call from Admissions. I don't know if they do that for everyone, though. His offer came in just days before I-day.

Thank you.... We know someone who this happened to last year, I think ill reach out and ask how he heard..

Admissions must have been going down the list of names/numbers and calling them in order to backfill the slot(s).

It wouldn't take her five minutes to reply! Just saying...
I'll ask my son next time I talk to him if he can find out from his friends at the academy how they were notified and post when I find out.

From Kansas with news from USAFA. I did call and found out the Board was meeting today and hoping for good news tomorrow or Friday! Just remember this is quite an honor to be still considered a candidate this late in the game; was told there just isn't enough vacancies/slots. A lot of those that got TWE's would gladly trade to be in this spot. Just saying.
