I was wondering how common it is for 3rd deg, 2nd deg and 1st deg cadets to completely fill up their schedule and take 13 periods worth of classes/other programs like Airmanship over the M-T block schedule? Is this something one should even consider or is it smarter to keep some free periods to do homework. I only ask because I was thinking about double majoring but because I’m not validating much, I’d need some full semesters.

In my days, there were 14 periods (7 for each M/T-Day). It was not common to see a cadet schedule with all of the blocks filled. It happened to me, but I was a double major. I would not recommend such a full schedule for most cadets - but it depended on the individual cadet. I didn't even have an "admin" period (commonly used for uniform fittings, supply issue, medical/dental appointment, etc.). I averaged eight 3 semester hour academic courses per semester not including PE or military studies. Some STEM courses required a double (lab) period. If a lab period wasn't utilized, I got some extra study time. Gym courses were a double period. I should add that I have no idea if there are requirements that mandate free periods these days. Many policies have changed over time.

Not common at all. Possible? Maybe. This will be a good conversation to have with your academic advisor after basic training.

Which two majors are you considering for the double?

I am doubled in aero and math. While I had several validations, I also do airmanship which required 1130-1800 on T-days. During my 3deg year, there was at least one "go" (10 lesson period) in which I was fully booked. Doable? Yes. Is it hard to get a haircut, exchange linens, etc.? Also yes. Many Ac advisors will not want you to double major, but give doolie year a shot and slowly pick up things to see if you can handle it. Good luck!
