Hi all! Just was curious what former or current SAP's experiences have been with nomination interviews (ie if you are far from home in an SAP program were you required to fly home for each interview? Did you do phone interviews? Other?) If you didn't interview on the regular interview day, how did you go about scheduling something different? Thanks a lot!!

I got lucky, because my interview happened to be scheduled over Thanksgiving break. Originally, I had planned a telephone interview with the board, and that is how most people go about the process if there isn't another option. If you live less than five hours away, I would say take a chance (if you can) and go back for the interview just because you want that personal contact and appeal- if not, stick with the phone interview and don't waste money. They will understand. Hope this helps!

Our DS did his by phone.

Keep in mind, there was already a bit of familiarity because of the previous year's interviews. They already knew his file and so-forth.

The prep school piece should only strengthen your case, if you are taking care of business.

Good luck!

Thank you both! Still trying to figure it all out. We're about 14 hours away and a new Congressman this year said 'under no circumstances can we do phone interviews for a scholarship worth this much'. DS (AF Falcon at MMI) is going to call and see if its possible to do over Thanksgiving break. Also contacting others to try the same thing! Can't afford to fly him home every weekend in November! Not to mention all the class he would miss as a result! Was just curious what others experiences were! Thanks again!

my DS was known from the prior year interview and they worked really well with him. Just talk to the office of the Congressman, and explain everything to them. I am sure when you tell them that you DS is in prep school , they will be understanding. For my DS, his congressman automatically gave him a nomination. Hope that helps

Interview....

Your interview panel completely understands the program about MMI. I would talk with a MMI authority and they can guide you. They are very skilled especially having a Falcon scholarship.

Thanks again to all! This particular Congressman is new this year (he replaced one who gave my DS a nomination last year) but they don't really seem to understand it all. DS got a response yesterday that they scheduled a new day - the day he is released from MMI for Thanksgiving break at noon - and that that's the best they could do for him. The crazy thing is that that's the day one of our Senators is doing all of her interviews. So anyone doing both will have to find a way to be in two different parts of the state for 2 interviews. We've also been told there is no changing times so if he is given interviews too close together - it just won't work. DS is going to see if he can be released from MMI the night before in order to make at least one of the interviews (and we're sill hoping for a phone interview with the Senator). This has been very disappointing all in all. With technology like Skype there's no excuse to put these applicants through this.

Is it appropriate for the parent to contact the congressman or senator or should that be mkre of the ds' s responsibility? Would like to better understand as my ds is also at mmi and is waiting to hear about the interviews...

You want your DD or DS to to contact the congressperson's office.

You also need to remember, they know what the SAP program is. They aren't going to assume your kid is blowing them off.
