Do the academies have to admit at least one nominated candidate from each state? Assuming the candidate is qualified and a slot is available.

If the nominated candidate is triple Qd, yes I believe they must offer appointment by law. Does NOT require them to admit however, should the appointee fail to continually meet requirements of the academy ... medical, morally, academically, etc.

I'm sure some of the pro's here can edify, expand, correct.

Here's the link to the specific legal code on this: http://www.access.gpo.gov/uscode/title10/subtitlec_partiii_chapter603_.html

Each representative and senator will fill all available slots each year. That too I believe is by law.

Congressmen and Senators are not required to fill all openings annually. If, through attrition or other means, several openings are available, many will spread them out just to keep the annual openings semi-even.

There is an obscure law somewhere that states that one member from each state must be in each entering class. I cannot imagine it happening in this day and time that there is not at least several. However, I would assume that, should it happen, the onus is on the Admissions Dept to visit that state and bring one candidate, dragging and screaming, to I-Day.

Interesting question. Academically only, of course. I am going to follow up as to the exact verbage and will keep you posted.
