I am applying for the class of 2028. I applied for a nomination from my representative a little over a month ago and have had no word back. I went through his website and did it properly. Since then I have had new awards that would make my application even better. What should I do? Do I fill out the form again when I get closer to the date of my application or do I wait till they get back to me?

Due to never getting word back I never applied to the other nomination sources as I decided to wait till a closer date. When would be the optimal time to apply for these nominations?

Finally, can I put stuff on my application I know I will do it. For instance, I got accepted to Boys State but have yet to attend. Should I put it on my application or wait till I actually fully attend?

You can call the Reps. staff and ask them how to update your information. Best to check with the MOC staff as many MOCs have different procedures...check with the authoritative source.

Most congressional offices will not start evaluating nomination requests for class of 2028 until later this summer. The deadline for those applications usually ranges between September and November. You are arguably too far ahead of the game for nominations at this point. Most nominations require a full packet of information.

Needless to say, you will not hear from congressional offices about nominations for the class of 2028 when the class of 2027 hasn't even been closed out yet.

It is really early to be submitting your packet for nominations. Most representatives won't be dealing with them until September or later. You win by waiting to submit closer to the deadline...because your course work will be updated, your transcript will be updated, and you will know what you are doing as a senior and if you are holding a leadership position--as well as what you are doing this summer. Best to wait.

Apply for all the noms for which you are eligible. That usually includes 2 Senators, 1 Representative and 1 VP, and any others for which you are eligible. The SAs recommend this.

Research the Sens/Rep websites and apply before their specified deadline. As noted above, it is VERY early in the 2028 cycle. Until Sens/Rep have all their nom apps in, they will not start giving out noms until after their deadline for submission - that is only fair. Some will require interviews. Some may wait until January 2024 to inform you of a nom. It is highly unlikely to get one over the summer.

At this time in the admissions cycle, you should be organizing your executive timeline and action list for SA, ROTC scholarship, other colleges (all your alternate plans), coordinating with teachers and letting them know they will be contacted for evals on you, training up for the CFA and getting that knocked out, drafting and polishing essays.

If you have something major you need to add to your nom app, you can exercise your best professional live phone or email skills to politely inquire of the SA nom staffers if you are able to add to your file. Don’t overdo this. You may want to wait a bit if you expect more things to add.

If your Rep (and Senators) have a SA committee coordinator, or the like, take the opportunity to speak with that person on the phone when questions like this arise. Without being over the top about it, getting to know that person could only help. By DS's third year applying, our's knew his voice on the phone😄.
As you continue to take SAT you'll obviously want to submit your scores into the fall. SAT has a code for your Reps and Senators for automatic score reporting. (Just like the Academies do and Civ U's). You can easily find these codes on the College board website in same place University codes are found. My son would call and email her as well, every time he had an update, etc...even if it was going to be auto reported score....again, be professional, polite and just don't be to annoying. We paid the extra small fee to have early December scores "rush reported" by College board, because our congressionals could still consider them then, despite being done with interviews and app deadlines. Check with yours.
By all means apply to EVERY nomination source. VP noms, and I believe Pres noms, are handled by the Academies as far as who gets those and any appointments. My understanding is that the VP and Pres don't actually get involved, just the Academies. [Someone correct me if I'm wrong here].
Point is that you want the Academies to know you did everything possible to gain appointment. Despite the super low odds of getting the VP appointment in particular, they should see that you tried for it nonetheless.
Continue to Look for Leadership building opportunities! Good Luck!

Read the post pinned to the top of the Nominations forum to understand more about nominations.

Presidential noms - everyone who meets the criteria will receive this nom. Could be several hundred, but only 100 appointments per class can be charged to this nom authority. USNA, USMA and USAFA manage all of it. The VP nom can be given to anyone, but there is also a max number of appointments that can be charged to that nom source. Again, the SAs manage it all.
