I received my nomination to USNA from my district representative about a week ago and received it by mail. The letter was vague, in that it contained nothing but the fact that he was honored to nominate me for the United States Naval Academy. His nomination renewed my confidence in attending the academy and I am pleased to have earned it. However, I understand that congressmen and women rank their nominees for 1 to 10, according to the USNA website. How can I tell what rank I am? Also, I know that each senator is allowed to have five people at each academy and each congressional district is also allowed five. Does this mean five in each class or five throughout all of the classes combined?
 
Congrats Pickle, the NOM is a great accomplishment!

First of all, not all MOCs (members of congress) rank. My son's NOMs were just like yours, meaning 1 of 10 (at most) nominated to the academy.

And each MOC is allowed 5 people total. Usually that means they get one a year unless someone has separated and is not longer at the academy.
 
+1 navymomwannabe. It does sound like you've received a competitive nom and not a nom on a ranked slate.

However, to clarify, you could always call your MOC's office and ask what kind of slate they submit. If it's a ranked slate, then you could ask if they will tell you what position on the slate you are; but note, not all MOC's will tell you, our's does not. :frown: (But still, it doesn't hurt to ask :shake:)

Congrats either way, that's a huge accomplishment and you should be very proud! :thumb:
 
Thank you for the replies. I will be calling in the near future to check my status. I emailed my congressman awhile ago but he still has not gotten back to me so I'll just call.

I also wanna clarify "Navymomwannabe"s point. So the MOC gets 1 per class year?
 
yes, they can have 5 noms at the academies per year. So basically, that's 1 a year and 2 once every 4 years or so. Same with the VP noms I believe.

I was told that I am ranked in the top half of the 10 people who were given nominations.
 
If it's a ranked slate, then you could ask if they will tell you what position on the slate you are; but note, not all MOC's will tell you, our's does not.
