Apart from the 3 MOCs and VP, do you also apply for SA Superintendent Nom? Or this is determined by the SA Admission team? My DS has all green check marks already except Nom but one of the MOC did not nominate him. Its sad news before Christmas but it is what it is. Its not yet over as he was interviewed by another MOC so waiting for that result. He also applied for VP Nom. Not sure though when it is officially over. I read somewhere here that its not over until you get the TWE. His plan B worked out as he already have Type 1 from AFROTC. He mentioned this during the MOC interview, not sure though if its a double edge sword in his Nom and SA application.

The SA websites list all the nominations a candidate can actively apply for. The SA has nom sources they control and use at their discretion, which the candidate cannot apply for.

The VP is a long shot, and it is generally thought the SA uses those near cycle end for those candidates they want but who did not get a nom from another source.

Good luck with that other MOC!

Thanks! If he will not receive any nom this round, he will move forward with his Type 1 and will try again next year for the USAFA. He is determined to be an officer in USAF. We are sad that the Congressman turned him down but not too much because of his Type 1. He was shortlisted by the Senator so still waiting for that. However, it becomes steeper as the nom source moves up. But as the saying goes, its over when its really over. Anything can still play out. Not yet giving up until TWE. :)

To add one bit more information: your son may pursue and earn an AFA nomination from his AFROTC unit next year. I've had several students follow this path, including a freshman this year who has his unit nomination to USAFA. By coincidence, all have earned appointments as freshmen. My student this year is still waiting for an appointment decision with lots of time to wait. :)

Oh yes! Tbh, we were a bit surprised he didnt get nominated. I thought Type 1 has almost equal weight as LOA. Anyway, just need to bounce off all these emotions in this forum! Thanks for all the correspondence. I heard the Senator gives the result before new year. So few more days before knowing his path whether SA or AFROTC next SY.

We felt the same the other way around, DS got an appointment but nothing from AFROTC. You just never know…. Best of luck and congrats, a Type 1 scholarship is amazing.

Just an update. My DS was told by our congressman that he is getting noms on the 3 SAs as alternate. They do principal nom and ranked alternate. He wasnt told his rank and he is not interested to know. Our Senator didnt nominate him for USAFA. Nom for USNA already showed with our district as source. USAFA and USMA have not yet updated their portals. Happy and hopeful to know he has noms even as ranked alternate. I hope the SA can take notice of him and charge his appointment elsewhere.

Just curious - what is the DAV nomination and who can apply for it?
You might find it helpful to read the pinned posts at the top of the Nominations forum.

In addition to the MOC nominations, there are categories of service-related noms, such as the Presidential, disabled veteran, etc. The candidate simply has to provide documentation of their eligibility, and they are given the nom. Some of these categories have caps on the number of appointments that can be charged to a specific nom source.
