I heard that the people who attend usmaps will have to obtain a nomination in order to get into usma the following year. How hard would it be to obtain a nom while at the prep school and would there be more sources of nominations available for people who attend the prep school? If someone didn't do so well in high school and on their sat would that put them at a disadvantage for applying for a nomination even though they currently attend the prep school? And about what percentage of people at the prep school are offered an appointment to usma the following year?

You will have to apply, like everyone else. You will apply to your HOR nominating sources, as well as any others that you qualify for (ie: VP and Presidential, etc). You will not have to complete another DODMERB exam, as those are good for 2 years. That’s some of the same, and different, when applying from Prep.

A couple things...you do not need a NOM to get into USMAPS. You will be offered MAPS through your regular USMA application process. Needing a little academic refinement is one reason a SA offers a prep spot. And if you do well at their sponsored prep and complete the program, you most likely will be offered an appointment in the following class. Even if you don’t receive a nom, as each SA has their own that they can use at their discretion. Attending a sponsors prep program is referred to as the “golden ticket”. So jump on the opportunity if it’s offered to you. Your classmates highly value the experience you will bring to them!

Check out information about each SA’s sponsored prep program on their websites. They are fantastic opportunities. And class profiles will show you how many in each class are from their prep programs.

As a Cadet Candidate, you will be eligible for a Sec of the Army nomination also. You will also apply for all other eligible nom sources. When you attend MAPS you will enlist in the Army Reserve for the year you are there which makes you eligible for the Sec Army nom. I have interviewed Cadet Candidates on Nom panels for my MOC. They have always done well regardless of their high school record, because they have a year of maturity, growth, experience. It often stands out in very positive ways. The SAs want those who attend a Prep School to do well and move on the next year. They have invested a great deal of time and money on the Candidates. Not sure at MAPS, but at NAPS, USNA appoints everyone who meets the requirements to move on. That means staying medically qualified, passing the PT requirements, staying in good conduct standing and also meeting the standards for grades.

@eryngrant133 As @NavyHoops said, "They have invested a great deal of time and money on the Candidates. Not sure at MAPS, but at NAPS, USNA appoints everyone who meets the requirements to move on. That means staying medically qualified, passing the PT requirements, staying in good conduct standing and also meeting the standards for grades." This sounds fairly accurate to me. As a graduate of USMAPS, I would like to concur with @NavyHoops. As long as you meet all of the requirements, you will 99% get selected for USMA. Also, if you do not get selected for a nomination, leadership at USMAPS will do everything in their power to make sure you get one.
