Hi all. So I'm a rising freshmen at Virginia Tech that will be participating in AFROTC (non scholarship). Today I started filling out the required AFROTC forms and I read somewhere "If you are not on scholarship, or have not completed a DODMERB Physical, you will be scheduled for one shortly after you arrive to campus. In order to do so, Please complete the DODMETS Application (Print and fill out), and return to the NCO office". Now, I was under the impression that only cadets on scholarship and those who are not on scholarship but have been selected for summer field training only have DODMERB exams done. I suppose I have to get one done shortly after I get on campus? Any clarification would be appreciated.

Yeah, your cadre will work with you to schedule one sometime after you arrive on campus. Even if you're not on scholarship, you still need to meet the medical standards, and this will give you more time to work out any potential waiver issues before field training selection comes. If you have any more questions, I highly suggest you directly contact your cadre, as every detachment works slightly differently and they are your best source of information during your entire time as a cadet!
