After receiving the TWE from USNA, I finally decided that I will be attending NWP with the Falcon Foundation Scholarship, and I wanted to see who else would be at Northwestern with me this fall. So, what better way to do so than to start a thread. Here is the format I'm thinking.

Name/DS DD Self/State/Foundation scholarship or self prep/Top academy you will apply for

1) Hopeful Mid 2024/Self/CA/Falcon Foundation/USAFA
2) ellensh/DD/FL/Falcon Foundation/USAFA

I know my DD is getting really excited about the fall!

My DS is between NWP and MMI as a self prep for USCGA or USMA. If he goes to NWP we will see you there!

It is great to see some of the people that will be at NWP this fall! I have been corresponding with another forum user who is going to be at NWP and we are trying to start a group chat on Instagram with NWP Prepsters. If you think that your DS/DD would be interested in getting to know some other NWP Prepsters before the fall, please send me a PM with their Instagram username and I can add them to the group chat. Looking forward to this fall!

This thread has been quiet for a few weeks. Last post was from @Hopeful Mid 2024 about starting an Instagram group for the candidates. I'm kind of old-school when it comes to social media, but think it's a great idea and hope the group takes advantage of the opportunity to get to know each other, which reminds me, I need to let DS know.

Over the past few months, I've come to think of SAF as kind of a family. We've persevered through the application, competed for nominations and "enjoyed" the glorious wait of the selection process together. We've learned so much along this journey and hopefully in the ensuing years, we'll be able to pass along our experiences to future candidates and the parents who support them. I hope all of us on the list are happy we've made it to this point.

When people ask if DS has heard from USAFA, the response is similar to "...yes, and well, he's sort of on the 5 year plan..." and then explain the Falcon Scholarship. Have to admit I was a little confident putting that 2024 in my SAF username, it will serve as a reminder that God has 3 answers to prayer, "Yes", "No" or "Wait".

For the candidates here, or more positively stated, "future cadets", you're going to experience some great things together these next 5 years. You're all exceptional young people, that's why you're here. It's not going to be easy, you'll learn to work together, to help each other and succeed as a team. For the parents here, we'll see our kids transform into the future leaders the USAF needs them to become.

We're all heading to "the mountain" in a few months and will be together on Thursday, Sep. 3rd. DW is a CA native, her mom and sister live in Southern Ca. We're heading out for a mini-vacation. The future cadets will have their Instagram group, so how about a get-together for the NWP Falcon parents from SAF? Based on the states in the list, 6 or 7 of us are flying in. Guessing many will be there on Wednesday. However, everyone will be there between 1500 and 1700 on Thursday, with last minute hugs when it's time for the parents to leave. This makes a convenient time to meet and get to know each other. How does a group dinner after saying goodbye sound?

Looking for your feedback on this. Feel free to PM me if you're not sure about replying in a public thread. I tagged everyone on this list, future USAFA cadets and future USAFA parents all listed below. If you know other Falcons attending NWP, pass this along to them.

Hope to hear from you! ~Dad_2024

Thank you for the kind words! Be sure to PM me your DS's IG username so that I can add him to the group chat, we have a small but active group of 5 future cadets right now from all across the nation. Regarding the dinner meet up for parents, that sounds like a great idea, and I will let my parents read this message!

Recently, myself and @USAFAContrail were on a Zoom call with 3 people who went to NWP last fall, and are leaving for BCT/Plebe Summer in just a few weeks. One thing that they mentioned to us, is that if you/DS/DD are able to make the volunteer day (you arrive on Sept. 2nd, a day early), you should do it, as it gives you/DS/DD a chance to meet fellow students a day earlier, and get settled in a day earlier as well. Personally, I only live 6 hours north of NWP so I have already signed up to help out on the 2nd. If you are interested in this, email Mrs. Durbeck, she is amazing!

They also provided a lot of information to us about how to prepare for the mountain. Just to pass on some of the more important messages of our 3 hour Zoom call, make sure that you/DS/DD is working out and staying in shape, as NWP is at a high elevation, similar to USAFA. Additionally, they also advised that we should get nomination paperwork submitted before we arrive. One of the people we spoke to did not have his nominations completed when he arrived, and said it was extremely difficult at the beginning to balance all of his NWP responsibilities, and nomination paperwork. Lastly, they said that we are going to have an amazing time, and that we will make friends that will last a lifetime!

Congratulations to everyone, and I look forward to seeing you all this September. This is the beginning of an amazing journey.

Best Regards,
Hopeful Mid 2024 (I was especially bold in choosing a username when I joined the forums last year, funny how things turned out)
