My son will be AROTC in the fall. He’s not on here but if you have any social media accounts you want to DM me I can share with him. I’m excited for all of you. I think Norwich is an excellent choice!

Hey are you @michael22 ?? With a name change?

didn’t you just post that you are going to The Citadel and plan to do reserves?

That was only if I get the Minuteman Scholarship, and with merely 33 days till May 1st, i don't know if I would get a response by then

Norwich was the first school that accepted my son and it is certainly a leading contender based mainly on the amazing financial package they have offered (even if he doesn't get an ROTC scholarship, it will cost him what each of the other schools he is looking at will cost with a 3 year ROTC scholarship). It is a great school and a great program with a strong reputation. We all also love the campus and the facilities. As a skier, I think he also likes the idea of being able to continue skiing in his upperclassman years. The only downside (for him) is the location. We're from Vermont, so he wouldn't mind being somewhere different (translated: warmer - it is spitting snow here today and will be a high of 23 tomorrow). He also knows from visiting and playing hockey games there that the Town of Northfield itself has very little to offer as far as college towns are concerned (as opposed to Charleston and Blacksburg, VA). I know this is less of a concern during freshman year, but as an upperclassman, the lack of a town around the college is something that concerns him a bit. We'll see what happens.

The location is the thing my son doesn’t love about Norwich. We are just 3 hours away and that’s great, but the middle of nowhere is less appealing. That being said I got the feeling when we were there that there were organized activities for things to do. In reality my kid is a homebody so he’s more likely to engage in an activity that is planned for him than to go seek out things to do if he were in a less rural environment. Guess we’ll find out!

Two of Mine attended Norwich, Class of 21 and Class of 25. Keep in mind that not only is NU in the middle of NOWHERE... getting home from there is painful. Burlington Airport is an hour away (yes there's a shuttle, but not super convenient) but Burlington Airport has literally 6 gates and some airlines only fly into there seasonally. So your next best choice is Manchester NH (2 hours ) or Logan (Boston) at least 3 hours away. The weather up there always causes anxiety with delays and flight cancellations. These were things we didn't even think about with the first one but were prepared for with the second one...and still it's annoying. LOL.

I'm actually visiting there tomorrow, I have to travel a day before lol, the flights from my location kinda suck... I'm excited though, it's still my #1 choice, if I don't get the Minuteman Scholarship...

Good luck! It is looking more and more likely that my son will end up there (unless he gets into VA Tech at which point, he’ll have a tough decision to make). He’s starting to wrap his head around the idea of getting out of Norwich debt free and is getting more excited about going there.

Because of almost guaranteed holiday travel delays, if at all possible, plan to head towards campus a few days earlier than expected and stay with a buddy. That helps eliminate some of the travel anxiety. Students have been stuck as far away as Dulles airport and a network of alumni and parents will get the students to campus, but it takes time and a few days on an airport cot has been known to happen.

Norwich is in transition right now, and the pandemic didn't help. A new commandant of cadets is starting, and this man will also be in charge of civilian residential lifestyles as well. It could be a boon or a disaster. The idea is to better integrate both lifestyles so the school resembled a kind of model DoD/Military dynamic - giving better On the job training opportunities. The new president is aiming tonhave every student spend at least one semester off campus - stateside or overseas. My son did both!

The food is atrocious, and has only been getting worse. Be sure.to supply meal replacement snacks where possible. Just check Instagram and Snap chat flr the daily raw chicken and uncooked hard.boiled eggs.for examples!

We attended a President's Inauguration tour in Texas. He stated he was looking to build the Corps back to a 2 Corps to 1 civilian ratio with more incentive to be part of the C of C. It is currently at a 1 to 1.
The incoming commandant is old Corps, USMC 0-6. I see many positive changes to the C of C.
