Hello everyone! First of all, Congratulations to all of you! I know this may find many of you with the relief of receiving your appointment, FINALLY, and now moving forward to how to prepare for what's coming, looking for any and every list out there to make things easier later. I wanted to share my reflections from last year and hope you take something from them. When my DD received her appoiintment, we began scouring this site, and anywhere else we could get information, to complete the upcoming tasks early. As a mom, I was so focused on what was coming I missed a few moments that I can't get back. It took my DD having a very honest conversations with me and reminding me that this was her process and reminding me that she just needed me to be mom, not a manager. Let your kids own the process and find what they need and want to take with them. Sure, you can offer opinions and insight on things they may not consider, but let them grow. They will have to do it ALL when they get to the Academy. They will need you to be their biggest supporter and confidant over the next year. It will not be easy to let go, nor easy to hear the pain, irritation, and down right anger at times. BUT, they are growing up. We did our jobs well or they wouldn't be where they are or where they are going. Be glad for the growth, be happy about the child you raised, and enjoy these last few months with them at home.

Class of 2025, remember right now is tough for your parents. They have put the last 18 years into getting you where you are. You will want some space and freedom, and in many cases, we just want to hold on. Give mom that extra hug or take the time to go fishing with dad, or whatever it is that you enjoy doing. It is a gift that you can give them that goes farther than you can imagine.

This year has been hard for Cadets and parents alike. The 2020 parents missed graduation and other milestones, and we, the 2024 parents, missed everything. With all the uncertainty, plan for everything and expect nothing. I pray for the families and incoming Class of 2025 to be as strong and unified as the Class of 2024 through all of the adversity they have faced this year.

Again, Congrats to all the Class of 2025 and their families.

I am a class of 21 mom. Yes things have been difficult. The years will fly by! We live pretty close to WP do had the opportunity to go to everything we could attend. March back 2 times once when my son was marching back as anew cadet and later when he marched back as Cadre. Fun each time.
Sadly, there are 21 families that saved money to attend firstie year events only. Ring weekend and graduation week. Ring weekend we could not attend, graduation is up in the air.
My advice is, enjoy your time now, try not to stress while your child is at WP. Its tough but your new cadet really does have it!
And...if you can attend events during the 4 years GO! Who saw 2021 coming?
Also, moms...sometimes you have to take the moms fb page with a grain of salt. It got me so stressed out at first until someone told me that.
Your kid will figure everything out. The older cadets are there to help.
Congrats!

Wow. Thank you. My son will be attending USMMA but I felt this. All of it. I will be sending my one and only to NY, all the way from FL. I sit here crying but embrace your message. Cheers.

Ok is there anyone else out there like me? I just accepted my appointment and my mom didn’t even know. My parents didn’t help or do anything for me.

Actually I think you are the only one! Ever.

OP's post is sage advice. Very well said. It's hard letting go - but it has to happen. My best moment was my DS walking the beach with me willingly the day before he left - I cherish that hour. @Cookiemom YES the FB pages are insane. Rumors get started there so quickly. Not a good look for parents of Cadets (in my case Mid). Hoover over them but it is not the word of your SA leadership, that word is shared with your Cadet/Mid....not to you through a FB post that someone's grandmother who heard from her friend, who heard from......And all you need for R/I day is a phone/charger in a plastic baggie with an index card with your name clearly written, and your backup paperwork. That's it! Seriously - that's it.

@TLR2025 USMMA willl take good care of him. I had to trust that very thing sending mine across the country to USMA. She's managed, embraced the changes, and grown so much over the last year. I sometimes wonder where my little girl went and where this wonderful young woman emerged from. But what an incredible transformation to watch as a parent!

If you completed this whole process on your own .... congratulations to you! - you are very prepared to succeed at whatever you do!!
