DD was selected for a national NROTC scholarship after the October board. She then received an email from the NROTC unit at the college she'd listed as her first choice, saying congrats and they'd be in touch with that college's admissions committee. She thinks now that her second listed choice may actually be where she wants to attend. Should she contact that college's NROTC unit in hopes they may reach out to their admission's board? Do the NROTC units at all five of her listed colleges find out about her selection or just the first one?

Board results are transmitted to each PNS of the various units. Some units reach out to everyone on the list. Others reach out if their unit is in the top 2 or 3.

Most units have either a Facebook page or a University page with a point of contact for questions. That would be the ideal place to start. Some universities can be picky, but most of them see a student with ROTC scholarship in hand like a realtor sees a buyer with a briefcase of cash. You want that person to visit you.

Thanks for your reply. What is PNS?

Professor of Naval Science for Navy/Marine side of the house. Professor of Military Science for the Army side. Basically it's a term of art which relates better at academic institutions. Basically a CO.

I'm assuming the scholarship was placed at DD's first choice school? If so, I'd recommend she decide for sure if #2 school is where she wants to be. I'm also assuming she does not have an admissions decision there yet. If she decides #2 school is where she wants to be, Id suggest reaching out to the recruitment officer or freshman advisor at that unit to express her interest in transferring her scholarship there and to see if they are willing to advocate for her with the Admissions office. I'd also recommend she contact her admissions representative herself and inform them of her scholarship and tell them, if admitted she is committed to attending.
