Our Summer Applicant opted in to have their summer application count as the first step in the academy application and this morning received a letter posted to the portal informing them that they will be granted "Candidate" Status when the apps open on July 1st. And another letter explaining the rolling admissions type of process.

Does anyone know about what percentage of applicants are eliminated in this first filter? I'm assuming it's a pretty broad/high level review, understanding that the real hurtle is yet to come, we were just curious what the stats are. TIA

I think the requirements to be a candidate are pretty low. As long as you meet the criteria mentioned in the Summer Seminar application it should be fine. If I remember correctly they ask for HS GPA of 3.0 or higher, math and English grades, and standardized test scores which should be 24 ACT composite (or equivalent) or higher.

It is hard to say if passing this “filter” means anything because anyone can fill out the application. Also, making the minimums does not make you competitive for an appointment.

I remember how excited my son was when he got that designation in the portal... I would celebrate the success of each and every step... continue to be encouraging but know that CKR2024 is right... it is a long and bumpy road... try to enjoy the journey. The more prepared you are for the application process the 'easier' it will be for your candidate. GOOD LUCK. This is a process only those that go through it can relate to... the traditional application process is not nearly as cumbersome and time consuming!! AIM HIGH!

Of course - we understand this has nothing to do with competitiveness for appointment, but appreciate the info. Just putting things in perspective.

Thank you for the encouragement. It is much appreciated.

Congrats on the first step. Echoing what was said already on the bumpy ride. I like the analogy of the roller coaster. Some days you're up and some days you are down. My advice for your child is to start writing essays. Search on here for topics but the sooner you start 3-4 essays, the more he/she can edit them and reuse them. My advice for the parent is to check out the bacon thread. It will keep your mind off of things for the next 12 months. Best of luck on this journey. It sure can be fun.

Thank you. The essays are on the list, but maybe they can be worked into a school assignment, that might be helpful. Will have to look into that - thanks again! The advice from those on the other side is so helpful.

My DS also opted to have his Summer Seminar application used for the first step of the application. Yesterday he received a notice his portal was updated and now says "Your Application Is: Highly Competitive." Does this mean anything or is this the standard process? Like everyone here, we are grasping for any insight as we settle in for the long road ahead.

Has to be good. My son got a “Your Application is: Compettive” so he is above mine. LOL Is he going to Summer Seminar?

Did anyone else receive the notice of rolling admissions? Just trying to find out if this is something new or if this has been a part of the process in previous years.

the way it has been... meaning rolling from time you become official candidate
