Can I accept my NROTC scholarship if I have accepted an AROTC scholarship and I am waiting to hear back from a service academy? When I say I accepted an AROTC scholarship I mean I reserved my scholarship. I have an LOA to USNA and just need a nomination which I hear back about next week and the academy is definitely my top choice but I want to reserve my ROTC scholarships in case I don’t receive a nomination.

So do you accept with the university as well if you are waiting on a SA response?
You don't have to accept by a university till May 1 (for the majority of schools). No harm in waiting till then if you don't want to lose the normal non-refundable deposit.

Just to confirm, you feel you need to accept two ROTC scholarships concurrently in the event that your dream of attending USNA does not pan out - to both Army and Navy? Why - is your decision not yet made between them? is there an expiration date on either ROTC offer that's fast approaching that makes you feel you have to to sign for two offers concurrently? What are your response deadlines? Is it still that you have to respond to AROTC within typically 30 days of the offer, and have until a later date for AFROTC and NROTC - near May 1st? If so, why not sit tight, make your decision in the coming couple of weeks, then sign up for USNA or NROTC if you want/ let Army know you're declining/ have decided to go Navy or let the others know if you decide to go Army. I support keeping the ROTC scholarship in case you need it - it's yours, but two concurrently? Not getting the advantage for you. Why let USNA potentially know that you have accepted the NROTC commission path offer while they are adjudicating your application to the SA? What if admissions sees that and gives the slot to someone who was USNA or bust so you both can be future officers? How does that help you?

Good luck - congrats on multiple scholarships and paths to serve. Thanks for your willingness to serve.

Lucky for me I ended up receiving appointments from USNA, USMA, and USAFA and no longer have to worry about accepting ROTC scholarships. Now I have to worry about which academy to choose!

How's the decision process for that coming along? I remember you were pretty undecided a couple weeks ago 😂

A reason to accept all 3 ROTC scholarship program awards might revolve around ultimate college admissions offers and acceptance decisions.

My son has all 3 scholarships, but he still has college acceptances pending. He had to build a matrix which listed schools vs their ROTC programs and academic majors.

A lot of his early acceptances were state schools which only had 1 ROTC program on campus or crosstown.

He's still pending Ivy Day as well as a few other private schools which offer a mix of ROTC programs.

AFROTC is the most flexible in that they award the HSSP and you have until 1 May to let them know where you'll be using the scholarship.

ROTC & NROTC are tighter in that they attempt to balance scholarship award locations with the ability to move your award if you need to change the school you wish to attend.
