My DS is completing his NROTC scholarship application (2024) and noted a part where they ask if you intend to apply to other service ROTC programs or SAs. NROTC is definitely his #1 preference (obviously if selected) and he doesn't want to greatly diminish his chances if applying to the others might do so. Any thoughts, experience or advice out there on applying to multiple service ROTC and/or SAs along with NROTC?

Just do it. It is common, expected and no surprise to either the SAs or ROTC. These are young people self-selecting a path to service, why wouldn’t they explore different paths.

If that’s the truth, then he answers the prompt truthfully.

After my NROTC interviewer finished the formal part of my interview, he asked me if I was applying to USNA and other SAs. I said yes and we had a nice conversation about ROTC and SA experiences. He was a USNA grad himself and was able to share a lot of perspective.

I don’t think that saying you are applying to other programs will hurt your chances.

I would amplify the above my stating you show a propensity to serve your country by applying to multiple venues.

Just be careful as you fill out the applications that you don't het cross threaded....such as....you talk about how much you have always wanted to fly off of an aircraft carrier and realize after the fact that was your application to West Point 😲
