The one question I have not been able to find an answer for relates to pay and benefits. In particular I wondered what the Midshipmen get paid say during their first summer (CortraMid). I am almost assuming it goes to a basic paygrade rate for the month but have seen nothing yet. Any advice appreciated. Thanks.
 
I understood that the USNA midshipmen receive a monthly stipend of about $800 but after expenses (laptop, etc.) they end up with around $100 in their pocket. I believe it increases each year. I'd be interested to learn if this is incorrect.
 
That is essentially true at USNA. NROTC students however receive a tax free stipend of $250 per month starting as 4th class midshipmen increasing by $50 per month each year in college up to $400 per month as seniors. It is the summer cruise period I am wondering about.
 
I read somewhere on the forums that the mids get $20/day during the summer cruises.
 
That is correct. During cruise NROTC mids get about $20/day. There is some wierd way they figured it out, but that's what it works out to.

You get paid the first 80% about two weeks before you leave for cruise. On cruise you get your orders endorsed and submit your travel claim once you get back. You then get paid the final 20%. Hope this helps!
 
For a one month cruise period it is something like 37%ish of O-1 pay. But it is taxed. It works out to $982.35 IIRC.
