I understand that the Navy has an extremely low tolerance for drug use and that they drug test MIDN randomly.

During the drug test, does someone watch you as you pee in the cup? MIDN/officer? I know that in AD, someone watches you as you do the urinalysis and I was wondering if they do that in an NROTC unit. Also, what if you're under 18?

**I do not do drugs. Whenever someone asks questions abt drugs on this forum/other forums, people automatically assume that the OP does drugs and is trying to game the system. I'm literally just curious**

Yes, all drug tests are observed by someone. Age, doesn’t matter. I have no idea how often drug tests are given in NROTC. My experience was with USNA where they are given fairly often which resulted in 3-6 or more tests a year. Sometimes they are Brigade wide (like after spring break) and others they are random companies.

Yes, NROTC indeed does random drug tests during the semester - not a guarantee but you should plan on being drug tested. Yes, you are observed by a same-gender person from the unit who watches you provide the sample. in at least one case, it was an adult officiant of that test from the unit, not a fellow student/ midshipman, but I can't say for sure how each unit does it. If you get stage-fright, they will wait - as long as it takes as you drink water, need more time or whatever, but you will give them a sample that day, which will be tested.

Yes, NROTC has a low tolerance for illegal drug use.

With regard to assumptions, that's a little edgy, eh? You should not assume I or others are assuming anything negative, please. General life guidance - assume positive intent (API) - a lot of us here are just helping/ giving back as we ourselves have been recipients of fantastic guidance which has helped ourselves/ our children from the members of this board. There are a lot of postings here to my knowledge about illegal drugs where the OP self incriminates and directly states they've used drugs - I'm not aware of posts where anything from someone innocent is assumed to be guilty of something - but I'll trust you've seen a pattern, somewhere. I'd make a joke about paranoia being a symptom of some drugs, but I worry it won't be taken as the jovial, fun-spirited humor, intended, so I'll skip it.

Yes NROTC does Drug Tests. DODMERB does not, in accordance with DoD policy :wiggle:

DS reports that during his NROTC time, 10% of the Battalion was tested each month.

If you have "performance anxiety" you will be given multiple attempts but you WILL produce a specimen that day. During DS's time, the collection was watched by a MSECP or Staff. There is a whole chain-of-custody process to the collection.

Random urinalysis began hitting the fleet near the end of my time on active duty but I have had to observe collections and give samples under watch many times. It is what it is.

Operation Golden Flow. Drink water, think of waterfalls, turn on the sink faucet in the bathroom. I never had a problem, but there were always people who struggled.

At my unit, MIDN (usually 1/C in the MIDN chain of command) are in charge of the watching part. If you have "stage freight" you have three hours to do it, and cannot leave the wardroom until you do. Drink enough water and it'll happen. I've never heard of it not getting done by the third hour, simple science says if you drink enough water it'll come.
